OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS
HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES to the family of Mary (Nowak) Ryan – to sister Jancia LaRusic and all family members. Mary’s Funeral Mass will be here in our church on Monday at 10:00am. Wieczny odpoczynek racz jej dać Panie, a światłość wiekuista niechaj jej świeci. Niech odpoczywa w pokoju. Amen.
STO LAT! Birthday blessings to Roddie O’Toole. Wishing health and happiness!
A NOTE OF THANKS: A number of parishioners shared meals and different site visits this past week with Father Zbigniew (Father Zbyszek), who was visiting from Poland. He reported that he enjoyed the meetings very much. We left him with some souvenirs from our parish and Polish community. Thanks, everyone. Bóg zapłać.
HISTORICAL / WELCOME BANNERS – FINAL DRAFTS: As part of the Polish Village Revitalization, the Beaton Institute in collaboration with the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society is doing pop-up welcome banners with some historical/welcoming information about our Polish community. Fellow parishioners already saw some drafts last fall, when we had the displays up in the Sala. These have been revised and added to based on input. We have more updated drafts (a master copy on the back table). They need to go into production this week. If you have a few moments, please have a look and suggest any final changes by writing them on the sticky-post-it note. The collage of grandparents’ photos (with the photos that many people contributed – thanks for that) is also finally going into production. It should be noted that even when these go into production, it’s intended that they will be changed and updated to reflect submissions and input going forward. We found a design that will make it fairly economical to switch out panels/banners into the future. There will also be posters and information and video images that supplement the panels. The idea is that the hall can become a pop-up welcome centre when there are visitors and then quickly dismantled for when the hall is rented out. There will also be a mini-children’s museum which can also be easily packed away.
WORKING ON THE RECOMMENDED BOOKS POSTER FOR N.S. POLISH HERITAGE MONTH. This year’s focus will be children’s books. The recommended books will have been translated into English plus we will recommend a couple of untranslated titles for translation.
GUEST LECTURER FOR NOVA SCOTIA POLISH HERITAGE MONTH: Marek Malicki, a respected Polish Canadian lawyer, has kindly accepted our invitation. He chairs the Canadian Polish Millennium Fund (endowment) and will speak about grant opportunities for Polonia projects, bursaries for students of Polish heritage, and about his work in Polonia. He’s also a past president of the Canadian Polish Congress.
FOOD CUPBOARD: Thanks so much for contributing any non-perishable items at the entrance of the church
UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN
ASSISTANCE: Thank you for continued
support. We have been supporting the
efforts of our sister city, Wałbrzych,
Poland, which has been caring for
thousands of refugees plus the Canadian
Catholic Organization for Development
and Peace and the Catholic Near East
Welfare Association
OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: Marking four years already! The Coast Radio FM 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week, Janice Stanwick will discuss the word “ognisko” and Polish campfire traditions. The segment is dedicated to the memory of Joseph and Irene Urbaniak from Frania, Shauna and Shari McKay.
We’re looking for sponsors and volunteers for the radio segments. It’s $100 for a whole week to sponsor. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments). If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!
PLEASE NOTE: We will be recording our next round of radio segments this coming Friday. If you can lend your voice, or if you would like to sponsor a segment, please speak with Tom Urbaniak
