OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

LUNCH AFTER MASS: Everyone is welcome. Thank you to everyone who brought a dish to share. Thank you, Sophie and Roddie, for the coffee and tea.

WITAMY SERDECZNIE! A Warm Welcome to guests Marvin and Gwen Anderson. Marvin is a theology professor (including at the Atlantic School of Thoelogy)  who teaches and writes on topics that are of interest to many of us. He will say a few words about his work during lunch after Mass today. Gwen and Marvin live in Ontario but are in Nova Scotia to facilitate the Rural Routes conference (for churches of all denominations), taking place this year in the Annapolis Valley.

DZIĘKUJEMY! Thank you for last Sunday’s procession and blessing of earth and blessing of people! It was beautiful and spiritual even though we had to stay inside due to weather. Thank you, Ursula Melski, for setting up the temporary altar and flowers! Photos on the parish Facebook page.

THEME FOR THIS YEAR’S NOVA SCOTIA POLISH HERITAGE MONTH (SEPTEMBER) will be “Special Walks.” Although there will be a wide range of activities, there will be some particular emphasis on walking tours, nature-language hikes (to learn some Polish words), cemetery visits, site visits and more. We will also feature some of the work students did to propose a future Galicia Brook walkway near the church.

FROG COUNT / REVITALIZATION OF THE GALICIA STREET BROOK AND RIGHT OF WAY: St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society, Cape Breton University, and ACAP Cape Breton (environmental charity) are working together to prepare an advocacy plan to clean up, restore, and profile this area, including around where the original (c.1911) Polish St. Michael’s hall was. ACAP researchers are studying the area in greater depth. They are hosting a community frog count on Monday, June 17. Meet at 8:45pm in the Polish Village Hall parking lot. Everyone is welcome

SPRING CLEANING AND TOUCH-UPS: Polish Twin City Pocket Park and the Kolonia Immigrant Heritage Parkette will be taking place over the next couple of weeks and we welcome anyone who might be willing to volunteer some time.

POLISH VILLAGE REVITALIZATION: ongoing. Recent developments: New signage on back of the hall (part of our commitment to visually acknowledge the “creative hub” component). Work nearing completion on exhibits and Polonia Mini Children’s Museum.  At the back of the church, you will see a sample draft guide book for the mini children's museum. Alison Etter was working on this in the hospital and was looking forward to doing monthly Polish-themed children’s play dates. Feedback welcomed and encouraged. We’re committed to continuing this

ST. MICHAEL’S POLISH BENEFIT SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP: Everyone is invited to consider becoming a member of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. The Society owns and operates the Polish Village Hall and is involved in a number of cultural and service projects. Founded in 1909, the Society is the oldest Polish community organization in Canada. In recognition of this, the Polish Village Hall is an officially designated heritage landmark. The Society has been working on a very positive hall revitalization project and recently developed the Twin City Pocket Park. Membership is $30 per year. Only members who are on the board are required to attend meetings. Other members participate in activities as they wish and can run for the board and vote at annual general meetings.  A membership form is attached to the paper version of the bulletin distributed before Mass. The AGM this year will be at 7:00pm on Sunday, June 23.

FOOD CUPBOARD: Thanks so much for contributing any non-perishable items at the entrance of the church

UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: Thank you for continued support. We have been supporting the efforts of our sister city, Wałbrzych, Poland, which has been caring for
thousands of refugees plus the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: Marking four years already! The Coast Radio FM 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week Janice Stanwick will discuss the close comradery of Poles and Canadians as allies at D-Day and in World Wear II. This segment is dedicated to John and Nellie Tynski from Julie Bennett. This past week would have been their 70th wedding anniversary. We miss them and are deeply grateful to them.
We’re looking for sponsors and volunteers for the radio segments. It’s $100 for a whole week to sponsor. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments). If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!

UPCOMING MEETINGS: Endowment trustees conference call: Tuesday, June 18, 3:15pm;     Rada meeting following 6:30pm Mass on Wednesday, June 19
