OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

VISIT: Father Rich Philiposki is visiting this weekend and will celebrate Mass for us today. Father Rich is also planning to celebrate Monday evening Mass at 6:30 p.m.

STO LAT! Birthday blessings to Larry Gniewek. Wishing lots of health and happiness!

“GRATULACJE” Blessings to Father Evo on the 15th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood.

ST. STANISLAUS DAY: In commemoration of St. Stanislaus Day earlier this week (May 8), please accept a little gift of complementary garden seeds.St. Stanislaus (1030 to 1079) is the first saint who was born in Poland. He was a bishop who led a modest life and bravely confronted the king for his abuses and called leaders to be humble servants and care about all their people. He is the main patron saint of Poland and a very popular Polish saint. There is a statue of St. Stanislaus on our church’s high altar.
This past week, Pope Francis spoke about St. Stanislaus as a source of inspiration to the Polish people during times of war and occupation. Pope Francis prayed for the
intercession of St. Stanislaus to bring peace to our troubled world.

STEFFIE ROBERT – GRADUATION: Steffie is an international student who has been a faithful part of our parish for the past couple of years and has joined us for Mass
every Sunday and has attended various events. Steffie is graduating this coming week. And as a gift to the parish, she would like to share some cake after Mass next
Sunday (May 19). Everyone is invited to stay for a few minutes after Mass next Sunday to congratulate Steffie! We’re so happy for you, Steffie. God bless you

FREE DRAW: If you didn’t have a chance to fill out a free ballot last week during our celebratory lunch for the Polish May 3rd holiday, please do so at the back of the church. After Mass, we will draw for three “Dwojaki” games (which we learned during lunch last week).

DZIĘKUJEMY / THANKS to everyone who made last Sunday’s lunch celebration so pleasant. Thanks to everyone who brought a dish. Thank you to Nicole for decorating. Thank you to Sophie and Roddie for the coffee and tea

THEME FOR THIS YEAR’S NOVA SCOTIA POLISH HERITAGE MONTH (September) will be “Special Walks.” Although there will be a wide range of activities, there will be some particular emphasis on walking tours, nature-language hikes (to learn some Polish words), cemetery visits, site visits and more. We will also feature some work students did to propose a future Galicia Brook walkway near the church. The board of the Atlantic Canada District of the Canadian Polish Congress and the board of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society met this past week and are looking forward to this theme.

GALICIA BROOK FROG COUNT: ACAP Cape Breton (the environmental organization) is looking at future natural / green restoration and clean-up along the brook that runs parallel to Galicia Street up to and past Jamieson Street. They will be organizing “frog counts”on May 27 at 8:30pm and June 17 at 8:45pm. Meet in the Polish Village Hall parking lot.

FOOD CUPBOARD: Thanks so much for contributing any non-perishable items at the entrance of the church

UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: Thank you for continued support. We have been supporting the efforts of our sister city, Wałbrzych, Poland, which has been caring for
thousands of refugees plus the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace and the Catholic Near East Welfare Association

OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: Marking four years already! The Coast Radio FM 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week, Stephanie Black will explain Polish words for mother and mom. The week is dedicated to deceased mothers.
We’re looking for sponsors and volunteers for the radio segments. It’s $100 for a whole week to sponsor. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments). If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!
