OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS
FUNERAL RECEPTION PREPARATION: Today (Sunday) at 1:00pm. We would be grateful to anyone who can spare a little bit of time to come to the church (Sala 1050) to help prepare sandwiches for Mike Morykot’s funeral reception after the funeral Mass Monday. Visitation for Mike is today from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the Pier Community Funeral Home, and funeral Mass is in our church tomorrow (Monday) at 11:00am. Our parish extends heartfelt condolences to Mike’s family. We will miss Mike. We honour his work with Mass for Shut-Ins for 61 years [!] and his service to the region in many other ways.
NEXT PARISH SUNDAY LUNCH will be on Sunday, February 11, in two weeks. That is a week later than usual for February in order to coincide with the Sunday immediately following Tłusty Czwartek (including pre-Lent Polish customs with pączki).
PHOTOS: Please check our parish Facebook page for photos from last Sunday’s Opłatek-related activities by the Pogoria Polish Folk Ensemble at the Cove Guest Home. You will also find photos from the Galicia Street second study walk this past Friday.
THANKS for all the help last Sunday taking down Christmas decorations. So grateful for all the volunteers! We have some photos on the parish Facebook page.
BLESSING OF CANDLES NEXT SUNDAY: As next Sunday is the Sunday closest to the Candlemas Day – known in the Polish tradition as Matka Boska Gromniczna – Feast of Our Lady of the Thunder Candle – we will have some candles to bless and some ribbons and flowers to decorate the candles. We will also have some prayer cards. Free will offering to support the global humanitarian efforts of the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (related to prayers this time of year for protection from natural disasters).
GROUP PHOTOS OF OUR PARISHIONERS AT MASS FOR SHUT-INS: Many thanks to Shirley Ardelli and family for doing these photos in hard copy as a gracious gift to fellow parishioners. They still have some photos and would be happy to share them.
FINANCE COMMITTEE, PROPERTY WORKING GROUP, ALTAR SOCIETY, LECTORS: As we do every year, this is a call for volunteers. If you would be interested in serving on any of these committees, or learning more about them, please speak with any member of the Rada.
FOOD CUPBOARD: Thank you very much for non-perishable items for the Food Cupboard. There are baskets to collect your kind non-perishable donations at the entrance to the church.
GALICIA STREET – THIRD STUDY WALK: If you have some free time this Friday, February 2 at 9:00am, please join CBU local-government students in the Polish Village Hall. We will be examining the concept of “cultural landscapes” and possibilities for a future trail / walkway. There will be coffee, tea and treats and conversation.
BOTTLES AND CANS COLLECTION FOR UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN RELIEF EFFORTS: In support of our Ukrainian humanitarian relief efforts, Marjorie Ardelli and Paul MacKinnon are very kindly continuing to collect recyclable bottles. They would welcome any redeemable bottles. Thanks to fellow parishioners for recent contributions of bottles and cans. Our parish has been supporting sister city Walbrzych’s Ukrainian relief efforts, plus the Catholic Near East Welfare Association and the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace.
OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio FM 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's segment will be about pasta Polish-style (łazanki). Many thanks to Bob Lewandowski for lending his voice. This week’s segment is dedicated to Marilyn Gillis on the occasion of her forthcoming birthday (Feb. 7).
We’re looking for sponsors and volunteers for the radio segments. It’s $100 for a whole week to sponsor. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments). If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!
