“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name. Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
June 16: Alina, Aneta, Budzimir, Jan, Justyna
June 17: Agnieszka, Drogomysł, Franciszek, Laura, Marcjan, Radomił
June 18: Elżbieta, Marek, Marina, Paula
June 19: Julianna

PAINTING OF THE CHURCH (INSIDE): This was one of the improvements many parishioners said they wanted to see in time for our 100th anniversary, ideally blue and white (colours of Mary and consistent with the previous/historical colour scheme). The Finance Committee has obtained quotes and, if all goes well, painting should begin very soon. There are photographs downstairs of the blue and white as it once looked, Also, at the back of the church is a colour deck. Please don’t hesitate to share advice within the next few days on precise colour(s)/shades with any member of the Rada or Finance Committee.
As part of their participation in a Canadian pilot of the Youth Architecture program (in partnership with CBU), Krista Ann Starzomski’s Grade 8 students at Whitney Pier Memorial Junior High visited our church on Monday. Prof. Jon Davey (Faculty of Architecture, Southern Illinois University) helped to explain our church’s rich religious and cultural symbolism, contained in the design, the art, and the artifacts. The workshop was very informative and eye-opening.

ST. BROTHER ALBERT – Feast day: June 17: On August 25, 1887, he joined the Third Order of St. Francis. He chose to live in a public shelter (initially in Krakow), where he served meals and provided clothing and basic necessities to people who had no material possessions, regardless of religion or culture. Although he had a promising career as an artist, he abandoned this to establish homeless shelters and other organizations for the poor. With Blessed Sister Bernardina, he established a parallel women’s organization. He argued that one of the greatest tragedies of our time is that people who are affluent ignore – sometimes wilfully ignore – those who are in need. He was canonized in 1983 by Blessed Pope John Paul II, who said that Brother Albert’s example had greatly inspired him in his own vocation.
