FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, at DAWN (6:15am) We will gather here at our church to pray for peace on the solemn anniversary of the invasion of Poland and the start of World War II. We will also raise the Polish flag for Polish Heritage Month. Last year, this was a beautiful and spiritual gathering. With thanks to the Pier Community Funeral Home, we will release peace doves at our church. We are looking for several readers for Friday. No previous experience is required. If you can help out, please let Tom Urbaniak know.
A SPECIAL NOTE TO FELLOW PARISHIONERS ABOUT A SPECIAL EVENT BY INVITATION: On Friday, September 8, at 7:00pm at the Polish Village, there will be an opening reception (no charge) for Pogoria Polish Folk Ensemble, this year’s featured artist for Nova Scotia Polish Heritage Month (Pogoria is marking its 20th anniversary this year). It promises to be a very enjoyable evening, This event is by invitation/RSVP. And you’re invited! But we need to kindly ask for your advance confirmation of attendance by Monday, September 4, at the latest. Please confirm your attendance with Shari McKay (shari_pogoria@hotmail.com). Many thanks!
POSTERS FOR POLISH HERITAGE MONTH: We have some beautiful small and large posters. Thanks if you can put them up!
NOVA SCOTIA POLISH HERITAGE MONTH ACTIVITIES FOR NEXT MONTH (SEPTEMBER): We are looking at quite a few activities for the Month. Among the highlights will be our parish’s 110th anniversary Mass on September 10 (11:00am), our parish retreat on September 23 in Gabarus (where the unveiling of the Copernicus 550th birthday sundial will take place the same day), the Pogoria featured artist exhibit (Sept. 9-10), film screening of EO on the morning of Sept. 15 at CBU, and more … There will be a full calendar of events attached to this bulletin.
POLISH TAKE-OUT TO SUPPORT OUR PARISH DURING POLISH HERITAGE MONTH: We’re also putting out a call to volunteers. We would like to do a parish Polish take-out meal on Friday, September 29. Tickets (fixed number) would be pre-sold to manage and space out the process. We would be so grateful for any help, including pierogi preparation in advance. The proceeds from this sale will support our parish.
BOTTLES AND CANS COLLECTION FOR UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN RELIEF EFFORTS: In support of our Ukrainian humanitarian relief efforts, Marjorie Ardelli and Paul MacKinnon are very kindly continuing to collect recyclable bottles. They would welcome any redeemable bottles. Thanks to fellow parishioners for recent contributions of bottles and cans. Our parish has been supporting sister city Walbrzych’s Ukrainian relief efforts, plus the Catholic Near East Welfare Association and the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace.
FOOD CUPBOARD: Many thanks for bringing any non-perishable contributions to Mass. The St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society has recently done repairs to the Food Cupboard.
OUR POLISH-THEMED RADIO SEGMENTS: The Coast Radio 89.7 (weekdays at 3:50pm and 7:50pm or any time at coastalradio.ca). This coming week's segment will have Father Rich Philiposki as our guest to talk about the special prayers for peace at our church at dawn this coming Friday, September 1. Everyone is welcome.
We’re always looking for sponsors and volunteers. It’s $100 for a whole week. Sponsors are recognized on air – and any dedications, too (eg. if you’re sponsoring as a memorial or as a birthday or anniversary gift). The Coast is generously redirecting the sponsorships back to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society (which produces the segments), which has been a big help to the Society. If you think you might like to sponsor a week, please e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca or call 563-1226. Many thanks!
COLLECTION FOR AUGUST 20: will be included with this coming week’s collection. Sincere thanks! Bόg zapłać!
