OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

OF NOTE: Friday marked the 105th anniversary of the Marian apparitions at Fatima and also the 41st anniversary of Pope John Paul II surviving the assassination attempt at St. Peter’s Square. In honour of the recent feast day of St. Stanislaus, you’re invited to take a package of tomato or radish seeds home with you from church (they’ll be in a basket close to the door near the parking lot). These can be planted in the upcoming planting season and the ground blessed with holy water. A simple prayer during planting might be: St. Stanislaus, I ask for your intercession to give me courage and integrity in the face of suffering and injustice. There is also a beautiful, longer litany prayer to St. Stanislaus in Polish. There will be a few copies of it at the back of the church (on the table with the missals). The prayer invokes the great saint’s courage, integrity, wisdom, charity and compassion for his people – a true shepherd. St. Stanislaus (1030-1079) -- Święty Stanisław ze Szczepanowa -- was murdered on the king’s orders for standing up to a corrupt and violent government. He is the main patron saint of Poland. The founders of our church placed a statue of St. Stanislaus on the high altar. When we rebuilt our church after the fire, we made sure he would still be there.

UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE: A big thank you for the parish’s generosity for Ukrainian humanitarian assistance. So far, we have contributed $19,500 to Wałbrzych’s Ukrainian refugee assistance fund (via CBRM); $3,350 to Caritas partners (via the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace); and $3,350 to the Catholic Near East Welfare Association. Another donation that is coming in as this bulletin is being written is $1,000 from the Cape Breton Bridge Club. Thank you to Rada Chair Robert Schella for his role in securing this donation. There are envelopes at the back of the church marked “Ukrainian Humanitarian Assistance.” You can also make a cheque to St. Mary’s Polish Parish and mark “Ukrainian Humanitarian Assistance” in the memo line. FOOD CUPBOARD: Please consider bringing a non-perishable food or personal care item (e.g. shampoo, soap, toilet paper) to church when you come to Mass. These items will help stock our food cupboard outside the Polish Village Hall.

MISSALS: Several copies of bilingual Polish-English and English Sunday missals are at the back of the church (table with the red tablecloth) for use in the church.

WEEKDAY RADIO SPOTS ABOUT POLISH CULTURE AND LANGUAGE IN CAPE BRETON: “One Minute Polish Broadcast” airs on the Coast Radio every weekday at 3:50pm and 7:50pm (FM 89.7), and is archived at coastalradio.ca. Learn a new Polish word, phrase, or cultural tradition. Presented by the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. Would you consider sponsoring a whole week of our radio segments for $100? The Coast has kindly agreed to allow the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society to do this as a fund-raiser (they are not charging for air time). Sponsors will be acknowledged on air (IMOs are welcome, birthday tributes, etc). Dziekujemy! We’re recruiting volunteers to go on air (pre-recorded). We’ll help you get ready.
