OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

COVID-19 UPDATE: A friendly reminder that as part of the province's modified Phase 5, the following applies in our church:
-Masks remain mandatory.
-Proof of vaccination is not required for regular Masses, but will be required for funerals, weddings, and all other gatherings, meetings, and activities hosted by the parish.
-We are still encouraged to try to maintain distancing and avoid crowding. The Sala 1050 will be used for overflow if required or if anyone wishes, with distanced chairs. Also, we will still have chairs at the back of the church to give more space.
-We will still do a staged exit in an effort to avoid crowding
-Pre-registration/names before Mass are not required, but we will keep a list of people attending as they arrive, in case names are needed for contact tracing.
-Masks must still be worn for singing. We will have further discussions about how to re-introduce singing going forward.
-We kindly ask everyone to continue to use the hand sanitizer upon entering the church.
Thank you for the solidarity, kindness, and sense of community during these challenging times! Thanks for helping to keep everyone safe! God bless you!

At the end of Mass, we will have the reading of names of – and a special prayer for – the deceased veterans of our parish.

PRAYERS AND CONDOLENCES: Joan Mosher’s daughter, Leah, passed away this week. Our parish expresses heartfelt condolences to Joan and her family. Our prayers and thoughts are with you. Wieczny odpoczynek racz jej dac Panie … Leah was one of the first three women in the Royal Canadian Air Force to earn their wings (in 1981), and she became a senior officer in the Canadian Forces. She was often invited to speak publicly about leadership and about being a path-breaker for other women. Among Leah’s national media appearances, she was a guest on the long-running CBC panel show Front Page Challenge. She will be greatly missed by many colleagues, family members, and friends across the country.

DZIĘKUJEMY NASZYM WETERANOM / THANK YOU TO OUR VETERANS: May God bless you. We pray for all veterans, including the deceased veterans of St. Mary’s Polish Parish. In tribute to them, the following is the refrain from Czerwone Maki na Monte Cassino – literally Red Poppies on Monte Cassino – by Feliks Konarski, which is almost like a Polish version of In Flanders Fields:
Czerwone maki na Monte Cassino
Zamiast rosy piły polską krew...
Po tych makach szedł żołnierz i ginął,
Lecz od śmierci silniejszy był gniew!
Przejdą lata i wieki przeminą,
Pozostaną ślady dawnych dni!..
I tylko maki na Monte Cassino
Czerwieńsze będą, bo z polskiej wzrosną krwi

FOOD CUPBOARD: If you are attending Mass this Sunday, we would be so grateful if you could bring a non-perishable food or personal care item for the Food Cupboard. A note of heartfelt thanks for the generosity of fellow parishioners!

FOOD GARDEN HARVESTED: The parish food garden went very well this year. We have a collaboration with Pathways, which is a charity that works with people who are living with mental illness to provide employment and training opportunities. Pathways team members did good work on the garden. Some of the food that was harvested helped folks with whom Pathways works who were in need. They also delivered some to Loaves and Fishes.

INFORMATION SESSION: November 19: A new study abroad program to allow Cape Breton students to spend part of their summer in our Polish twin city, Walbrzych, is being developed. An information session will be held at CBU on Friday, November 19, at 10:30am. This will include a role (and cost reimbursement) for our parish to help with some basic cultural and language preparation.

PARISHIONERS’ MEETING: After Mass on November 14, we will have a short parishioners meeting which will include a financial update, parish activities update, and Rada Nominations. If you think you might like to consider serving for the Rada or recommending someone, or learning more about serving on the Rada, please speak with Nominations Committee members Marjorie Ardelli or Janet Hawthorne.

CONSUL GENERAL’S VISIT: Polish Consul General Dariusz Wisniewski will be visiting November 19-21. He will join us for Mass next Sunday.

DZIĘKUJEMY! A big thank you to everyone who supported the Christmas Bazaar yesterday at the Polish Village Hall. Thanks, Nicole, and team! Thanks, Bernie and Jerry, for working at the door and handling COVID safety. Bόg zapłaƈ!

The Coast has kindly agreed to allow the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society to do this as a fund-raiser (they are not charging for air time). Sponsors will be acknowledged on air (IMOs are welcome, birthday tributes, etc). Dziekujemy! And, we’re recruiting volunteers to go on air (pre-recorded). We’ll help you get ready. No previous experience required, and you do not have to be a Polish speaker. Our radio theme for this coming week is Polish Independence Day (November 11). SWIĘTO NIEPODLEGŁOŚCI – NOVEMBER 11 -- A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE AND HOPE: November 11th, the day of the armistice ending World War I in 1918, is also the day when Poland became an independent country again after a long period of occupation. It is Independence Day in Poland. Some of the ancestors of our parishioners were involved in that struggle. As such, for people of Polish heritage, November 11th is a holiday of both remembrance and hope. For the 123 years before 1918, Poland had been partitioned between Russia, Austria-Hungary, and Germany/Prussia. Between 1918 and 1939, Poland maintained its independence. However, the beginning of World War II on September 1, 1939, saw the country invaded first by Germany and then by the Soviet Union. The first Chief of State of the post-1918 independent Poland was the legendary Józef Piłsudski. For many years his portrait graced our very own Polish Village Hall. This old portrait was found during renovations and is once again in the hall.
