PRAYERS AND CONDOLENCES: We were saddened to learn of the passing of Colleen MacNeil, sister of Delores Starzomski and sister-in-law of Jancia MacCormack.  Our prayers go out to the whole family. Wieczny odpoczynek racz jej dac Panie a swiatloscwiekuista niechaj jej swieci.

FOOD CUPBOARD: If you are attending Mass this Sunday, we would be so grateful if you could bring a non-perishable or personal care item for the Food Cupboard. In particular, personal care items (soap, shampoo, etc) appear to be especially needed at this time. Also, nutritious non-perishable breakfast items like cereal and peanut butter. Thanks for all your help! God bless!

CAN YOU SPARE 1-2 HOURS THIS MONDAY OR TUESDAY MORNING? We’re going to be doing some improvements to the empty lot at the corner of Victoria Road and Franklin St., which will help to beautify the neighbourhood, together with our CBU work-study student, Amritpal Singh. We’d be so grateful for a couple of volunteers. Thanks so much! Dziekujemy bardzo!

UPCOMING LECTURE: Please mark Wednesday, September 15, at 10:30am on your calendar! Roman Szełemej, the mayor of our twin city, Walbrzych, will join us to discuss leadership and community development as we emerge from the pandemic. There will be lots of practical ideas. Most of our parishioners had the pleasure to meet Mayor Szelemej when he joined us for Mass, a meal, and other activities during his 2019 visit.

JO-ANN DZIUBEK MacDONALD will be our featured artist this year for Nova Scotia Polish Heritage Month – September 9 to 11 at the Polish Village Hall. More information to follow! We’re looking forward to the exhibit!

POSTERS FOR NOVA SCOTIA POLISH HERITAGE MONTH: Last week we included colour, paper copies – inserts in the bulletin. We have larger versions, too, that we’d be happy to share if you’d like to put the poster up somewhere.  Please spread the word. We’re encouraging businesses and groups to acknowledge the month in some way!

PARISH POLISH COOK BOOKS – SECOND PRINTING! Now available: These are the 100th anniversary cookbooks from 2013, featuring recipes and stories from many parishioners. The cookbook project was coordinated by Shari McKay. Copies are $10 each and we’d be happy to send copies anywhere. Please be in touch: 902-563-1226; tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca

MURAL PROJECT: Homes of Polish Cape Breton. Our artist Emily Sheppard will be going around to locations next weekend (though a home doesn’t have to be still standing to be sketched). Please suggest addresses for Emily to look at! We will do an exhibit of sketches during NS Polish Heritage Month!

WEEKDAY RADIO SPOTS ABOUT POLISH CULTURE AND LANGUAGE IN CAPE BRETON: The Coast Radio: Every weekday at 3:50pm and 7:50pm (FM 89.7). And archived at coastalradio.ca. It’s called the “One Minute Polish Broadcast”. Learn a new Polish word, phrase, or cultural tradition. Presented by the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society. Would you consider sponsoring a whole week of our radio segments for $100? The Coast has kindly agreed to allow the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society to do this as a fund-raiser (they are not charging for air time). Sponsors will be acknowledged on air (IMOs are welcome, birthday tributes, etc). Dziekujemy! And, we’re recruiting volunteers to go on air (pre-recorded). We’ll help you get ready. No previous experience required, and you do not have to be a Polish speaker. Our radio theme for this coming week will be Polish cold summer soups. Thank you to Jerry Pocius for lending his voice this week!
