OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

WITAMY! Welcome to our special guests today – both of whom are very good friends of our parish: Janusz Tomczak, president of the Canadian Polish Congress, and Dariusz Wiśniewski, Consul General of the Republic of Poland (Dariusz’s second visit). Janusz was elected president of the Canadian Polish Congress last October. He was previously president of the Congress’s Alberta district. We are so grateful for the generosity he showed to our parish. When we were rebuilding after the fire, Janusz kindly took the initiative to organize Polonia organizations in Alberta to contribute financially to the effort. This support was very important to us. We are delighted to host him here for the first time! Last evening, Dariusz and Janusz participated in a 110th anniversary supper – one of the several events, workshops, and activities marking the anniversary of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society.

LUNCH AFTER MASS TODAY IN SALA 1050: Everyone is welcome. After lunch, you are also most welcome to join us for a walk of multicultural sites in Whitney Pier.

SINCEREST CONDOLENCES: Our parish family mourns the recent passing of Vicky Radzikowski and Tom Chmiel. We extend our prayers and condolences to their families. We will miss them. Wieczny odpoczynek racz im dać, Panie a światłość wiekuista niechaj im świeci.

THE COMMUNITY KITCHEN: resumes in our church this Wednesday, September 18, from 11:30am to 1:00pm and continues every Wednesday. Meals are free of charge or donate what you can. The atmosphere is very pleasant and welcoming. We’re delighted to be collaborating with volunteers from other faith communities in the area. If you would like to sign up as a volunteer, please call 902-563-1226 or e-mail tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca

RADA MEETING:  This Wednesday following the 6:30pm Mass.

WAŁBRZYCH PARTNER CITY STEERING COMMITTEE: (coordinating efforts with our Polish sister city) will meet on Monday, September 23, at 8:30am in our church (Sala 1050)

“SEARCHING FOR POLISH CAPE BRETON” – Pop-up museum: Please mark Tuesday, December 3, on your calendar. This will be a chance to bring in items and images. We will have people on hand to help “interpret” or identify items as well as to take photos or scans for posterity. The Polish community in Cape Breton has such a rich history. Many artifacts and memories are in danger of being lost or forgotten. The pop-up museum is one of the events this year marking the 110th anniversary of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF THE ATLANTIC CANADA DISTRICT OF THE CANADIAN POLISH CONGRESS: This coming Saturday at 2:30pm in Halifax (business meeting followed by a boat tour with local Polonia). The district was founded last year in Sydney, and we decided to alternate AGMs between Halifax and Sydney. If you would like to attend, please contact Tom Urbaniak at 902-563-1226 or tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca

THIS WEEKEND, WE MARK THE 35th ANNIVERSARY OF OUR PARISH’S MEETING WITH ST. JOHN PAUL II. When he arrived in Halifax, our parish formed an official welcome contingent. Many people remember the special conversation in Polish and the pope’s encouragement to us to maintain our faith and our parish, and be proud of our identity and proud to share our beautiful practices and customs.

DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE WORKSHOP THIS SATURDAY: “Development and Peace” is the common name for the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace which supports humanitarian partner organizations around the world. The past couple of years, our parish has been supporting Developing and Peace at the feast of Matki Bożej Gromnicznej (Candlemas Day). Proceeds from the sale of blessed candles go to Development and Peace. This coming Saturday, there will be a diocesan Development and Peace workshop. It will take place from 10:00am to 3:00pm. (lunch included) at the pastoral office of St. Leonard’s Parish (formerly St. Michael’s Hall), 5308 Union Highway, River Ryan. A focus will be the campaign “Four Our Common Home,” inspired by Pope Francis’s powerful encyclical on the environment, Laudato Si. Everyone is welcome.

175TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DIOCESE: Thank you so much to members of the Starzmoski family for representing our parish today at a special Mass in Antigonish to mark the 175th anniversary of the diocese. And thank you to Peggy Ryba for preparing the bread and salt to present as traditional gifts!

THE POLISH CAPE BRETONERS COLOURING BOOK: Copies ($10) are for sale at the back of the church. If you purchase a copy, please write your name on the sheet to help us keep track of inventory. Many thanks.

CARDS/GREETINGS FOR FR. RICH: Stephanie Black and Edyta Baczyk are travelling to attend the 40th anniversary celebrations for Fr. Rich Philiposki, former pastor. Stephanie would be happy to take any cards or notes that you might wish to pass along!

ST. THERESA’S PARISH PRESENTS MOVIE NIGHT: The screening of the film Unplanned at the St. Theresa’s Hall, originally scheduled for last Sunday but postponed due to the storm and power outages, will take place today at 7:00pm.

TRANSLATION OF TODAY’S SECOND READING FROM PAUL’S LETTER TO TIMOTHY: Beloved: I am grateful to him who has strengthened me, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he considered me trustworthy in appointing me to the ministry. I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and arrogant, but I have been mercifully treated because I acted out of ignorance in my unbelief. Indeed, the grace of our Lord has been abundant, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. This saying is trustworthy and deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. Of these I am the foremost. But for that reason I was mercifully treated, so that in me, as the foremost, Christ Jesus might display all his patience as an example for those who would come to believe in him for everlasting life.To the king of ages, incorruptible, invisible, the only God, honour and glory forever and ever.  Amen.

“What must one do to be a good Christian? The answer is simple: we have to do, each in our own way, what Jesus says in the Beatitudes” --A recent message from Pope Francis on Twitter
