OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS
Szczęśliwego Dnia Kanady! Happy Canada Day!
RECENT IMO (IN MEMORY OF) CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE BUILDING FUND:
IMO Stella Paruch from
Jerry Pocius; Caroline Adams
THIS EVENING: Please join us for a Canada Day weekend social at the Polish Village Hall – downstairs at 6:00pm. Everyone is warmly welcomed. Our guest, Dr. Joanna Pyłat, will do a short presentation on her work with Polish communities around the world, and offer some thoughts about preservation of records and memories of the Polish community in Cape Breton, and the upcoming pop-up museum. We will also acknowledge dedicated current members of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society, who have been members for more than 25 years, and who have been designated as life members. This evening’s social will be casual and informal. If you can bring a dish or tray with some food that would be wonderful (but it’s not required or expected – and if you are bringing something it can be simple). See you this evening. Do zobaczenia!
“SEARCHING FOR POLISH CAPE BRETON” -- POP-UP MUSEUM: This past Tuesday, we had a good workshop at the CBU Beaton Institute to begin planning a pop-up museum for September. We received some very valuable new information, including from knowledge-keepers in Glace Bay and New Waterford. The approach to the pop-up museum will be very “democratic”. Part of the purpose will be to bring in items, images, and documents that require some explanation or interpretation (somewhat like the Antiques Roadshow). We’ll be putting out a call and reaching out to families and volunteers to have tables or displays, which we will photograph for posterity. We’ll also try to record (with permission) some conversations and interviews, as people share information during the pop-up museum. A pop-up museum is rather like an “event.” Please look through attics and basements, and let’s try together to preserve and profile the rich heritage of our community. We’re also interested in stories and records from people who arrived more recently.

TRANSLATION OF TODAY’S SECOND READING FROM ST. PAUL’S LETTER TO THE GALATIANS: Brothers and sisters: For freedom Christ set us free; so stand firm and do not submit again to the yoke of slavery. For you were called for freedom, brothers and sisters. But do not use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh; rather, serve one another through love. For the whole law is fulfilled in one statement, namely, You shall love your neighbour as yourself. But if you go on biting and devouring one another, beware that you are not consumed by one another. I say, then: live by the Spirit and you will certainly not gratify the desire of the flesh. For the flesh has desires against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you may not do what you want. But if you are guided by the Spirit, you are not under the law.
“Jesus looks at us, loves us and awaits us. He is all heart and all mercy. Let us go with confidence to Jesus. He always forgives us” --A recent message from Pope Francis on Twitter
