OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS
FIRST HOLY COMMUNIONS: Congratulations to Lucy Campbell and Lyra Melski! We are praying for you and we will support you as a parish. We are all invited to share in a celebratory cake after Mass today.
LUNCH (EASTER SWIECONKA BRUNCH) AFTER MASS TODAY: Everyone is welcome. There is no charge. We invite you to please find a seat at a table. In keeping with the Polish custom, Fr. Dennis will bless the eggs on the tables and then we will pass the plates with eggs around the table wishing each other many blessings. We could say “Z Bogiem – smacznego jajka!” After the blessing and exchange of sharing of blessed eggs, we’ll approach the food-serving tables and share in a meal. Thank you to the parishioners who were on the list this time to bring a dish.
LOAVES AND FISHES: Thank you to everyone who brought a non-perishable item. There will be a box at the entrance to the lunch area.
DZIĘKUJEMY! Appreciation to all who made the May 3rd celebration at the Polish Village Hall so successful. Thanks for all the hard work. It means a lot.
MARIAN MOVEMENT OF PRIESTS invites you to an evening of prayer and reflection in the form of a cenacle with Fr. Anthony Goodwin here at St. Mary’s Polish Church on Friday, May 17, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm including exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, Rosary with meditations, benediction, and Mass.
PROPOSING A POLISH HERITAGE MONTH IN NOVA SCOTIA: At a meeting last Monday, the board of the Atlantic Canada District of the Canadian Polish Congress (which was formed last September and is headquartered at the Polish Village Hall) decided to recommend that the province designate each September as Polish Heritage Month in Nova Scotia – to raise awareness about Polish communities, culture and heritage. September is recommended because it was in that month that both St. Mary’s Polish Parish and St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society celebrate their anniversaries, as well as the month when Polish immigrants who came through Pier 21 are honoured. If passed, this would not require us to organize additional events or change the schedule of our events, but it would give extra mileage for some of our current efforts.
POLISH CAPE BRETONERS COLOURING BOOK: Copies are available ($10 each) at the back of the church. The launch on May 3rd was wonderful!
PUBLIC RESEARCH LECTURE AT CBU: “Can Concerned Catholics Repair the Church? A Study of Faith, Governance, and Accountability” Tom Urbaniak will discuss some of his recent academic research related to the church. Everyone welcome. Tuesday, May 14, at 7:00pm. Location: CBU Library.
Uroczystość Najświętszej Maryi Panny Królowej Polski MARY, QUEEN OF POLAND: (Feast: May 3 – also Constitution Day) The following is excerpted from an article by Martin LaMartina in Christian Culture (2009): John Paul II’s motto “Totus Tuus” is also applicable to the collective soul of the Polish nation ... This soul was officially recognized, and Poland’s faith was solidified, with the crowning of Mary as “Queen of Poland” through an official Act of Parliament proposed by King John Casimir
“In many countries, May is the month of Mary. May the Mother of God accompany us and protect Christians in fighting against the forces of evil. Let us entrust ourselves to her and pray for the Church and for peace in the world.” --A recent message from Pope Francis on Twitter
WHITNEY PIER COMMUNITY KITCHEN PROJECT: Everyone is welcome for a warm meal and fellowship in a friendly, inclusive atmosphere. Every week, we have a diverse cross-section of the community.
