OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS
PHOTOGRAPHS OF PARISH EVENTS: Vicky Aucoin has been compiling parish scrapbooks. As parish events happen, she’d be really grateful if you could share your photos! Vicky’s telephone number is 562-7142.
PIEROGI: Parish volunteers will be making pierogi on March 29 and 30. Thanks to anyone who can help! New volunteers welcome – longstanding volunteers are happy to share their knowledge. If you would like to place an advance order for pierogi, please contact Stephanie Black (902-578-3697).
NEXT LUNCH AFTER MASS – SUNDAY, MARCH 31: Michał Faleńczyk, Polish Consul with responsibility for cultural affairs, will be here. He would like to spend time informally with members of our community. Everyone is welcome. Also, anyone who would like to have a one-on-one consular appointment with Mr. Faleńczyk (re any services of the Polish government, Polish passports, etc), please call 902-563-1226 and an appointment can be set up while he is here.
WHITNEY PIER COMMUNITY KITCHEN PROJECT: Everyone is welcome for a warm meal and fellowship in a friendly, inclusive atmosphere. Every week, we have a diverse cross-section of the community. Meals are served every Wednesday from 11:30am to 1:00pm in our Sala 1050. Meals are free of charge or donate what you can to support the project. Many thanks to the volunteers and sponsors, and other faith communities as well as students who are collaborating with us.
COMMUNITY KITCHEN – SOME RECENT STATISTICS: In January, we served 584 meals (over five sittings). In February, we served 605 meals (over four sittings).
POLONIA ARCHIVING PROJECT: During the second half of June, Prof. Joanna Pylat (Polish University Abroad) will be with us to help us and the CBU Beaton Institute (archives) discover more information, records, videos, photos, letters, etc. on the Polish community in Cape Breton. There will be opportunities to share or show some of your records. We’d like to invite everyone to think about records you might have that you would like to either show or contribute to the Beaton Institute in order to preserve, for future generations, the memories and legacies of Cape Breton’s Polish community.
DONOR WALL TEMPLATE: We now have a miniature draft sample template provided by Brown’s Cresting. It’s on one of the tables in Sala 1050 – please feel free to have a look. It gives a rough idea (feedback/corrections welcomed: 902-563-1226; tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca). Please note it is a miniature: the actual version will take up much of the wall between the library and the side entrance door. In the actual formatting, the first and last names will be together (without a big gap), and we’re open to using additional photos. A lighter colour might also be appropriate, but, again, feedback is welcomed!
POLISH LANGUAGE LESSONS: The Polish Embassy has offered some funding to the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society for language instruction. We can use this for tutorials, a short course, or a workshop (language day) at a beginner or advanced-beginner level. We can customize this based on interest. To express interest or give some feedback, please speak with Tom Urbaniak (tom_urbaniak@cbu.ca; 902-563-1226).
TRANSLATION OF TODAY’S SECOND READING (FROM PAUL’S LETTER TO THE PHILIPPIANS): Join with others in being imitators of me, brothers and sisters, and observe those who thus conduct themselves according to the model you have in us. For many, as I have often told you and now tell you even in tears, conduct themselves as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction. Their God is their stomach; their glory is in their "shame."Their minds are occupied with earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we also await a saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will change our lowly body to conform with his glorified body by the power that enables him also to bring all things into subjection to himself. Therefore, my brothers and sisters, whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, in this way stand firm in the Lord.
“His Holiness Pope Francis was deeply saddened to learn of the injury and loss of life caused by the senseless acts of violence at two Mosques in Christchurch, and he assures all New Zealanders, and in particular the Muslim community, of his heartfelt solidarity in the wake of these attacks.” – A message on Friday sent on behalf of Pope Francis
