IMO Dawn Marie Wadden and Michael Ardelli from Shirley Ardelli
IMO Aileen Goduto from Patsy Kiley
WELCOME TO REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION FOR A SPECIAL REMEMBRANCE SERVICE AT THE END OF MASS TODAY.
ALL SOULS DAY: In keeping with the Polish custom for All Souls Day, please consider taking some holy water to the cemetery. In addition to spending time at the graves of relatives, it is customary to pray for all the deceased there buried, including people without relatives remaining in the area: Bądźcie pozdrowione wy wszystkie dusze wiernych zmarłych!
LUNCH AFTER MASS CANCELLED FOR TODAY: Unfortunately, we will not be able to hold lunch after Mass today due to the still ongoing pierogi-making in the Sala 1050. We have tried to contact everyone who was on the list to bring a dish this Sunday to let them know about this change. Thanks for your understanding. We are kindly asking the volunteers who were designated to bring a dish this week to please bring a dish instead on Sunday, November 25. We will have lunch after Mass that day with a guest, the new Consul General of Poland, Dariusz Wiśniewski. Everyone is most welcome
ITEMS FOR OUR COMMUNITY KITCHEN AND LOAVES AND FISHES: If you brought a non-perishable item, many thanks. There are collection bins near both entrances.
OUR ANNUAL PRE-CHRISTMAS BAZAAR: November 10 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm at the Polish Village Hall. Multiple vendors (tables have been fully booked!) and many one-of-a-kind items! Please spread the word! Admission is $2.00
BAKED GOODS FOR OUR PRE-CHRISTMAS BAZAAR ON SATURDAY: With sincere gratitude for all the volunteer effort that has gone into recent events (pierogi-making, Dozynki, etc), we are kindly asking another favour of fellow parishioners and friends, which is baked goods donations for the Christmas bazaar (to be sold whole – and all proceeds to the parish). This will be a big help to the event. Please drop off baked goods at the Polish Village Hall between 6:00pm and 9:00pm on Friday or after 9:00am on Saturday. Thank you so much!
RADA MEETING: following 6:30pm Mass on Wednesday
COMMUNITY KITCHEN PROJECT: Wednesdays from 11:30am to 1:00pm in our church (Sala 1050). All welcome for a meal. Free of charge or donate what you can. Thanks to all the volunteers and supporters. You are doing amazing work!
REMEMBRANCE DAY: On Sunday November 11th, we will pray for our veterans and also mark the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence, which is a designated major anniversary. At the back of the church is a list of veterans of our parish, to be read next Sunday. This list will be emailed to everyone on our parishioners’ email list for verification. If you are not on the e-mail list, please have a look at it today if you can and please make any corrections in the margins.
UPDATE FROM ST. MICHAEL’S POLISH BENEFIT SOCIETY: At its meeting last Sunday, the Society approved a new membership structure, which will make it easier for people living near or far who support the objectives of the Society (promoting Polish culture, caring for the Polish Village Hall) to become members, get updates and event invitations, vote for a board each year, but without general members having to attend monthly meetings, which will be board meetings. More on this to follow.
UPDATE FROM ATLANTIC DISTRICT OF CANADIAN POLISH CONGRESS: The new district board that was elected on Sept. 30 (Pres. Tom Urbaniak, Vice Pres. Patricia Roberts, Secretary Frank Starzomski, Treasurer Pawel Lenarczyk, Ursula Melski. Peggy Ryba) held a teleconference Monday. We have been encouraged to honour the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining independence with a special legacy project in our communities in the next year. In collaboration with CBU and Prof. Joanna Pylat of the Polish University Abroad (who visited us in 2014), and who will be here for a longer time next spring, we are looking at a “participatory archiving” project in May 2019 to collect, identify, and interpret previously unknown records related to the Polish community in our region and make sure these are accessible in the Beaton Institute for generations to come. We are also putting out a call to people of Polish heritage in Atlantic Canada living outside CBRM and HRM, so that we can start communicating with them electronically and possibly connect them to existing organizations, including in Sydney.
STO LAT! A NOTE OF CONGRATULATIONS: Mike and Juanita Morykot are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. All of their fellow parishioners of St. Mary’s Polish Parish wish them joy, happiness, and many blessings. We are grateful for their friendship. God bless! Bóg zapłać!
TRANSLATION OF TODAY’S FIRST READING FROM DEUTERONOMY: Moses spoke to the people, saying:"Fear the Lord, your God, and keep, throughout the days of your lives, all his statutes and commandments which I enjoin on you, and thus have long life. Hear then, Israel, and be careful to observe them, that you may grow and prosper the more, in keeping with the promise of the Lord, the God of your fathers, to give you a land flowing with milk and honey. "Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord alone! Therefore, you shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength. Take to heart these words which I enjoin on you today.”
“Let us strengthen the bonds of love and communion with all the Saints who are already in God's presence.” – A recent message on Twitter from Pope Francis
