OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS
RECENT IN MEMORY OF ("IMO") CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE REBUILDING FUND:
COMMUNITY KITCHEN PROJECT: We served our first meals on Wednesday. It was a great success. More than 80 meals were served. Meals are free or donate what you can. Many guests voluntarily left donations, which totalled $348. This is a collaborative project – a service to the community -- of our parish and other local faith communities and organizations, arising from a need identified on our recent community development walks. It is weekly – Wednesdays from 11:30am to 1:00pm. All welcome.
LAUNCHING THE ATLANTIC CANADA DISTRICT OF THE CANADIAN POLISH CONGRESS: We would like to welcome Władysław Lizoń, national president of the Canadian Polish Congress, and friends from Halifax who are joining us today. Everyone is invited to the following happenings today (no charge):
-Lunch after Mass today. Everyone is welcome. We will also have a cake to mark the 109th anniversary of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society.
-An Enjoyable Guided Walk of Whitney Pier, looking at sites related Polish immigration and co-operation with other cultural communities – starting from the church after the brunch.
-Informal roundtable on community partnerships at 1:30pm – Polish Village Hall, downstairs. As part of this roundtable, Jane Arnold of the CBU Beaton Institute will show archival photographs related to the Polish community where some of the people or places are not identified. Other guests will be there, too. We could use your help looking at the photos and sharing ideas! Refreshments will be served.
-Short business meeting to launch the Atlantic Canada district of the Canadian Polish Congress at 2:45pm – Polish Village Hall, downstairs -- presided over by Wladyslaw Lizon. This is an important moment, as it will give our region a voice at the national table and bring us closer to other Polonia communities across Canada.
FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING: Saturday at 10:00am.
PLEASE NOTE: Because of today’s activities there will not be an evening regular meeting of the St. Michael’s Polish Benefit Society.
PIEROGI-MAKING: Tomorrow (Monday) in our church (Sala 1050), 9:30am (to prepare for Dożynki). This will be the first pierogi-making session in our new kitchen! Sincere gratitude to anyone who can make some time tomorrow. New volunteers welcome. Dziękujemy za wszystko!
DOŻYNKI POLISH HARVEST FESTIVAL: Sunday, October 14th from 3:00pm to 6:00pm at the Polish Village Hall. We will have Polish food, a small Polish market, dance and folk song demonstrations, and more! This will also be a way to mark our 105th anniversary together with the broader community, which has been very kind to us. There is no admission charge. Everyone is welcome. Please spread the word. Zapraszamy!
ITEMS FOR LOAVES AND FISHES AND COMMUNITY KITCHEN: Thanks to everyone who brought an item today. There will be a box to gather the items at the entrance to the lunch area.
“DOORS OPEN” – TOURS OF OUR CHURCH DURING THE ISLAND-WIDE CELTIC COLOURS FESTIVAL: We have been asked to provide tours on Wednesday, October 10, from 12 noon to 4pm. If you would like to be a tour guide, warmly welcome visitors from near and far, please speak with Tom Urbaniak (902-563-1226). Resources to give to visitors will be provided and some “tour guide training” (historical info about our church) if you wish! Dziękujemy bardzo!
PUMPKINS: As a small but heartfelt Thanksgiving gift to fellow parishioners next Sunday, there will be small pumpkins that you will be invited to take home.
TRANSLATION OF TODAY’S SECOND READING FROM JAMES 5: Come now, you rich, weep and wail over your impending miseries. Your wealth has rotted away, your clothes have become moth-eaten, your gold and silver have corroded, and that corrosion will be a testimony against you; it will devour your flesh like a fire. You have stored up treasure for the last days. Behold, the wages you withheld from the workers who harvested your fields are crying aloud; and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. You have lived on earth in luxury and pleasure; you have fattened your hearts for the day of slaughter. You have condemned; you have murdered the righteous one; he offers you no resistance.
QUICK FACT ABOUT CANADIAN POLISH CONGRESS: Established in 1944 – continuation of an earlier organization; an umbrella for various organizations; organized into regional districts; a voice for Polish Canadians; assists Polish communities; gets behind worthy projects.
“Jesus gave us a simple programme for journeying towards holiness: the commandment of love for God and our neighbour.” – A recent message on Twitter from Pope Francis
