TRANSLATION OF TODAY’S SECOND READING (2 Corinthians 12:7-10): Brothers and sisters: That I, Paul, might not become too elated, because of the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, an angel of Satan, to beat me, to keep me from being too elated. Three times I begged the Lord about this, that it might leave me, but he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” I will rather boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell with me. Therefore, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and constraints, for the sake of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong.
“Let us ask our Lord to help us understand that love is service, love means taking care of others.”– a recent message on Twitter from Pope Francis

WHITNEY PIER COMMUNITY KITCHEN PROJECT
A collaboration of faith groups and community organizations
c/o St. Mary’s Polish Church
21 Wesley St., Whitney Pier, Nova Scotia B1N 2M5 (902) 563-1226
5 July 2018
Dear Friends:
Diverse faith communities and other partner organizations have come together to start the Whitney Pier Community Kitchen Project.
Once a week on Wednesday afternoons, starting on September 26 for a six-month pilot, we will provide meals free of charge or pay-what-you-can to people in the community. We are bringing back a needed service that was operating in the Pier until 2012, and took some pressure off Loaves and Fishes.
We know that this will make a real difference for some of our neighbours. It will also provide fellowship, friendship and a network of support.
We are writing to ask for your support. A $250 sponsorship will cover one week. It would help in a significant way. The sponsorship could also be in memory of a loved one or a gift in someone’s name (eg. for a birthday or retirement).
Each week, we will recognize the sponsor at the meal, provide a letter of thanks, and post a running list of sponsors at the site of the meal.
The site will be St. Mary’s Polish Church, which is in the heart of the Pier. The new kitchen will be fully modern and accessible (including accessible washrooms). Everything is bright and on one level.
St. Mary’s Polish Church is proud to be the host site, but this is very much a collaborative effort – a true partnership of faith communities and organizations. We have also reached out to, and are working with, the hospitality and culinary arts programs at CBU and NSCC Marconi campus.
Sponsorship cheques can be made out to “Whitney Pier Polish Kitchen Society.” If you would like a charitable tax receipt, a cheque can be written to “St. Mary’s Polish Parish” (and please indicate on the memo line: “Community Kitchen Project”).
Thank you in advance for your support of this important community project. Please do not hesitate to be in touch with any questions or suggestions. Thank you kindly for caring.
Yours sincerely,
Tom Urbaniak
Interim Chair, Community Kitchen Steering Committee
