OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS
FATHER RICH REPORTS:
Niech będzie pochwalony Jezus Chrystus! Praise be Jesus Christ!
Dear Parishioners & Friends:
Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, which is also known in Latin as “Corpus Christi” and in Polish as “Boze Cialo.” This feast was instituted in 1264 by Pope Urban IV in response to the growing disbelief or skepticism in the teaching of the true presence of Christ in the Eucharist. At one time in all Catholic churches, elaborate processions with the monstrance took place in cities, towns, and villages. It has unfortunately disappeared in many Catholic churches, but Poland and Polish Catholics outside of Poland have largely kept the tradition. In 1990, we revived the procession and even invited our neighbours at Holy Ghost Church to join us. It has since then become somewhat erratic with the changing of pastors, and another factor has been our Cape Breton climate at the end of May or beginning of June. Hopefully today, whether in or out of the church, we will honour and reverence Jesus’s presence with a manifestation of our belief with a Eucharistic procession. We sincerely welcome – serdecznie witamy – Fr. Joseph (Joe) Mróz, SJ, who is here for two weeks taking my place. As mentioned last week, Fr. Joe is chaplain at Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Fr. Joe’s family has roots here in Cape Breton and in the Pier. The last Sunday 4:00pm Mass will be on June 24th. Beginning the last week of June, there will be only one weekday evening Mass on Wednesdays at 6:30pm followed by the Novena to Our Lady of Czestochowa or another seasonal devotion. Next week, please remember the parish’s Annual General Meeting. Even though I will be absent, I have written a message for the report.

IN MEMORY OF (IMO) CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE REBUILDING FUND:
BOŻE CIAŁO/CORPUS CHRISTI TODAY: The procession will be indoors because of the cold and windy weather (and wet ground).
LUNCH AFTER MASS TODAY: in “Sala 1050”, everyone is welcome. This will also be a chance to chat with and welcome Fr. Joe Mróz, who will be with us for the next couple of weeks!
LOAVES AND FISHES: Thank you to everyone who brought a non-perishable item today. There will be a box at the entrance to the lunch area
PARISH’S ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING: after the 10:00am Mass next Sunday. A written annual report will also be distributed. There are some advance copies at the back of the church.
COMMUNITY KITCHEN STEERING COMMITTEE. The next meeting is Monday, June 11, at 4:00pm (a week from tomorrow). This is for the weekly meals in our church (in collaboration with other faith communities), starting late September for six-month pilot, free or pay-what-you-can, restoring a service previously offered at Trinity United Church before it closed in 2013.
THE CANADIAN POLISH CONGRESS – ATLANTIC CANADA DISTRICT is going ahead. This will give our Polish organizations direct access to national support/collaboration. A steering committee has been meeting by teleconference to make this happen. The launch will be on Sunday, Sept. 30, in Sydney. Everyone will be welcome. Wladyslaw Lizon, national president of the Canadian Polish Congress, will be here. Representatives of Polish groups in Halifax will be here too.
KITCHEN CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: After deliberation, the Rada decided to go with a higher, more durable quality of wood cabinets. These will take about six weeks to arrive, so we will have a short lull in construction. We’re looking forward to this final piece of our rebuilding!
MEMORIAL HYMN SING, WARDEN UNITED CHURCH: 44 Fifth St, New Aberdeen (Glace Bay). This evening at 7:00pm. Featuring Coal Town Chorus and lots of other local talent. This is to raise funds for renovations that are needed this year. (Warden United Church was a kind donor to our rebuilding. It is currently one of Rev. Alison Etter’s churches in Glace Bay.) All welcome. Free-will offering.
ST. ALBAN’S ANGLICAN CHURCH, WHITNEY PIER: 116th anniversary concert, this evening at 7:00pm.
SECOND DRAFT OF REBUILDING DONORS’ LIST is in binders at the back of the church. Please make corrections right on the sheets. Dziekujemy
