“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name. Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
May 1: Aniela, Filip, Jakub,Józef, Lubomir, Maja, Zofia
May 2: Walter, Witomir, Zygmunt
May 3: Aleksander, Antonina, Maria, Mariola
May 4: Grzegorz, Michał, Monika
May 5: Irena, Teodor, Waldemar
May 6: Jan
May 7: Benedykt, Bogumir, Ludmiła, Ludomiła

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS
MARY, QUEEN OF POLAND (Feast: May 3 – also Constitution Day) Excerpted from an article by Martin LaMartina in Christian Culture (2009): For the ultimate expression of Polish Catholic devotion we can look to the fruition of Polish Marian piety in the lives and in the enduring spiritual gifts to the Church of her contemporary martyrs, saints, priests, and religious. The list includes St. Faustina, John Paul II and St. Maximillian Kolbe. These sons and daughters of Poland of the twentieth century are still influential in the life of the universal Church of today … The nation’s strong devotion to Mary traces its roots back to the installation and adoration of Our Lady’s iconic image at Czestochowa. While each of these individuals has given us a unique personal witness, they are all similar in their personal dependence on the will of Christ through obedience to His Mother through the Church. A dependence summed up in the motto of John Paul II: “Totus Tuus”. This motto is also applicable to the collective soul of the Polish nation from which these saints come forth. This soul was officially recognized, and Poland’s faith was solidified, with the crowning of Mary as “Queen of Poland” through an official Act of Parliament proposed by King John Casimir.
MASS OF CONSECRATION: Please mark the afternoon of Sunday, July 3, in your calendar for our Mass of Consecration. We hope to be in our new church a few weeks before that and to hold an open house for the community. More information to follow.
THANK YOU for your contributions last week to Loaves and Fishes. These have been delivered.
STAINED GLASS WINDOW: The careful extraction and moving of the “Christ, Light of the World” stained glass window, kindly donated by First United Church, began on Wednesday. ALL ITEMS ON THE FIRST LIST WERE SPONSORED! Thank you so much for the great response, which will help a lot. Dziękujemy bardzo!
These items are now available for sponsorship:
Plinths (the beautiful bases for the arches and columns in the main church area) -- $500 each -- there are 10 of these.

- Evelyn Cook
Trim around church (interior) -- $12,600 --please note that for this or other items joint or multiple sponsorships are welcomed toward the total required.
Window above the altar - new item - $3,500 -- – it will include coloured but not patterned glass (Sponsorship recognition would be on a plaque and not on the window itself.)
Sponsorship of St. John Paul II Lane -- $18,000 (This is the laneway that will run, as before, along the side of the church and will include parking. The value of the sponsorship is for the paving. The sponsorship will be acknowledged with an appropriate inscription below or near the St. John Paul II Lane sign.)

Drywalling the hall -- $10,700
Flooring for hall -- $18,650
Library and Reading Room -- $10,000 (Many thanks to Aggie Stephenson for this sponsorship!)
Children’s Play Area -- $2,000 – a small but very nice area near one of the large windows and near the library/reading area for toys, games, crafts, etc. (The sponsorship covers the actual space.) Many thanks to Anna Wesolkowska for this sponsorship!
PLEASE NOTE: As a working name for funding applications, we have been using "Sala 1050" to describe the back section (future hall, kitchen, reception space, library, etc) – because our new church is being completed in an important anniversary year – the 1050th anniversary of the baptism of Poland.
