“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
November 16: Edmund, Marek, Maria, Niedamir, Otomar, Paweł, Piotr
November 17: Grzegorz
November 18: Aniela, Cieszymysł, Klaudyna, Roman, Tomasz
November 19: Elżbieta, Mironiega, Paweł, Seweryn
November 20: Edmund, Feliks, Sędzimir
November 21: Janusz, Konrad, Maria, Piotr, Regina, Rena, Twardosław, Wiesław

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

CATECHISM AND POLISH CULTURAL CLASS, for school-age children, led by Krista Ann Starzomski, downstairs after Mass.

A NOTE ON ST. CECILIA AND THE CHOIR OF ST. MARY’S POLISH CHURCH: St. Cecilia, martyred around the year 230 in Rome because of her Christian faith, sang to God as she lay dying. She is the patron saint of the Choir of St. Mary’s Polish Parish and of church music. It was Father Leo O’Connell who began calling our choir after St. Cecilia. The Choir of St. Mary’s Polish Parish, under the direction of Mary Pierrynowski, is Cape Breton’s only Polish choir, a “living treasure.” Thank you so much to our choir for being excellent ambassadors for our parish.  Bóg zapłać!

RECENT MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE BUILDING FUND:
IMO Blair Reid from Joan Mosher
IMO Anita MacNeil from Blair MacAulay
Roof fund/sponsorships of bundles of shingles will be reported separately.

QUILT RAFFLE FOR OUR PARISH: A big thank you to Patsy Kiley for making the beautiful quilt. Tickets are at the back of the church ($1 each).

ROOF: The work continues, as does our fund-raising shingle campaign! We are very grateful for sponsorships of bundles of shingles ($25 per bundle), which can be in memory of loved ones. There are envelopes at the back of the church.  Thanks as well for reaching out to friends of the parish. In last week’s bulletin there was a draft preliminary list of sponsors of bundles of shingles and IMOs. Please report any corrections in the coming week. Thank you.

PIEROGI-MAKING: General request for volunteers for Sunday, November 30, and Monday, December 1. If you’re not able to assist on site, you’re invited to consider sponsoring the purchase of an ingredient. Thank you. The pierogi proceeds will go toward our new roof.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD: Please leave your filled shoeboxes at the back of the church. Thank you for your participation! If you have any questions, please speak with Suzanne Campbell (270-2859). There is still time to participate. There are instruction pamphlets at the back of the church. We have run out of the official shoeboxes, but regular shoeboxes will be great as well.

OUR NEXT POLSKI PIATEK – coinciding with Andrzejki (feast day of St. Andrew – which is traditionally an enjoyable occasion in Polish communities with various unique traditions) will be on Friday, November 28, at 6 p.m. at the Polish Village Hall. There is no charge. There will be a special presentation of a momento signed by the late Janusz Zurakowski, the famous Polish Canadian aviator who was the chief test pilot for the Avro Arrow.  He would have turned 100 this year.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY – Important information session for families interested in applying for a soon-to-be-built Habitat home in the Pier. The Habitat model is affordable ownership for modest-income households (volunteer with the project, no down payment, no interest, mortgage geared to income). Tuesday, November 18, 7 p.m., Polish Village Hall.  Our parish is part of this project, working with a number of other faith groups and organizations.

FOOD HANDLER COURSE FOR NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS AND VOLUNTEERS: In Holy Redeemer Church (basement) on Monday, December 1, 6-9 p.m., with a break. This course is provided by the Province of Nova Scotia, Food Safety Division (Sean O’Toole). Ofiarowanie Najświętszej Maryi Panny / Feast of the Presentation of Mary (Nov. 21): The feast marks an event recounted in the Infancy Narrative of James, when Mary’s parents, Anne and Joachim, brought her, while still a child, to the temple in thanksgiving. This is also the feast day of Blessed Franciszka Siedliska, founder of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, with congregations in Poland and North America.
