“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
August 18: Bogusława, Bronisław, Bronisz, Helena, Ilona, Klara
August 19: Bolesław, Emilia, Jan, Julian, Juliusz, Piotr
August 20: Jan, Samuel, Samuela, Sieciech, Sobiesław, Świeciech
August 21: Emilian, Filipina, Franciszek, Joanna, Kazimiera, Męcimir
August 22: Cezary, Dalegor, Maria, Namysław, Tymoteusz, Zygfryd
August 23: Filip, Laurenty
August 24: Bartłomiej, Cieszymir, Jerzy, Joanna, Malina, Michalina

-From the Second Vatican Council’s Constitution of the Church
The title Queen of Heaven has been used for centuries in the Catholic church and is a common formulation in prayers and in art. In 1969, Pope Paul VI, moved the Feast of the Queenship of Mary to August 22. The image on the cover of today’s bulletin depicts the famous crowned Madonna in Roktno, Poland

SPONSORSHIP – POLISH FESTIVAL – SEPTEMBER 8, 2013

Dear Friends:

St. Mary’s Polish Parish is honoured to host the Annual Polish Festival – a time to profile and celebrate the living heritage of Polish Cape Bretoners!

This year’s festival will take place from 12 noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 8, on the parish grounds (Wesley St. at Victoria Road, Whitney Pier). We will have Polish food, folk-dance performances, crafts, children’s games, tours of our historic church, and more.

This year’s Polish Festival coincides with the 100th anniversary of our parish, which will be officially commemorated at the 9:30 a.m. Mass on September 8 and with a Centenary Banquet on Friday, September 6. We have been marking our Centenary throughout the year with a series of concerts, special events and ceremonies, as well as service projects. We are proud of our community and proud of our heritage. We are delighted to share what we have with others and to be part of the rich Cape Breton mosaic.

We would like to invite you to consider a financial or in-kind contribution (eg. prizes for children’s games, equipment, printing, or food/ingredients relevant to the festival menu).

All sponsors and donors will be acknowledged in the festival program and on the parish website (www.stmaryspolishparish.ca).

Please do not hesitate to contact the under-signed for any additional information. Thank you in advance for your interest and support, and we hope to see you on September 8. Serdecznie dziękujemy i zapraszamy!

Yours sincerely,
Krista Ann Starzomski
