“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
June 9: Felicjan
June 10: Bogumił, Edgar, Małgorzata
June 11: Feliks, Radomił
June 12: Antonina, Jan, Leon, Wyszemir
June 13: Antoni, Chociemir, Lucjan, Maria Magdalena, Tobiasz

FEAST OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS (Najświętszego Serca Pana Jezusa) --Friday, June 7, 2013 – 19 days after Pentecost):
From Pope Leo XIII’s Encyclical Annum Sacrum (1899): And since there is in the Sacred Heart a symbol and a sensible image of the infinite love of Jesus Christ which moves us to love one another, therefore is it fit and proper that we should consecrate ourselves to His most Sacred Heart-an act which is nothing else than an offering and a binding of oneself to Jesus Christ, seeing that whatever honour, veneration and love is given to this divine Heart is really and truly given to Christ Himself. For these reasons we urge and exhort all who know and love this divine Heart willingly to undertake this act of piety; and it is our earnest desire that all should make it on the same day, that so the aspirations of so many thousands who are performing this act of consecration may be borne to the temple of heaven on the same day.

Feast day – June 13 (St. Andrzej Swierad is sometimes referred to in English as “St. Andrew Zorard”):
He was one of Poland’s first Christian missionaries. He lived between 980 and about 1030. He lived an ascetic life of utmost simplicity, poverty, and humility. His most famous student Benedict was murdered for his faith and was later canonized as well. St. Andrzej Swierad was the first Pole to be canonized. May we follow his example of humble goodness and preaching through service and integrity.
