“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
November 18: Aniela, Klaudyna, Roman, Tomasz
November 19: Elżbieta, Paweł, Seweryn
November 20: Edmund, Feliks

OGŁOSZENIA/ANNOUNCEMENTS

CHANGE IN WEDNESDAY MASS TIME FOR THE WINTER MONTHS: 4 p.m.: Our Wednesday evening Mass is at 4 p.m. Novena to Our Lady of Czestochowa follows as usual. Father Paul has effected this change out of consideration for people who may find it difficult to drive in the dark, especially in inclement winter conditions.

ST. MARY’S POLISH PARISH MASS FOR SHUT-INS: We would be very grateful if as many parishioners as possible could set aside part of the evening of Tuesday, November 20, for the recording of the Mass for shut-ins. We will be meeting at the CTV Sydney television studio (George St.) at 6 p.m. Father Paul has requested that those of us who have traditional Polish attire or St. Michael’s suits should please wear these for this Mass. Thank you everyone!

CATECHISM/POLISH CULTURAL CLASS for school-age children (about 30 minutes long), will be held after Mass today downstairs, led by Krista Ann Starzomski.

APOLOGIES : Thank you, everyone, for your kind patience with the heating in the church and for stoically enduring the cold during Mass last Sunday! Sorry about that! We think the problem is resolved and that the heat will remain stable today at room temperature.

CONSULTATION OF PARISHIONERS BY THE INTERIM FINANCE COMMITTEE:  At its meeting last Sunday, the Interim Finance Committee resolved to ask parishioners for feedback on what improvements or upgrades you would most like to see to the church building and property. Although there is no assurance that funds will be available to carry out the enhancements, the committee is looking at a Department of Canadian Heritage grant program – coinciding with major anniversaries -- for which we may be eligible, as well as a legacy fund-raising initiative coinciding with the 100th anniversary. Suggestions can be sent to Andrzej Cebula, Chair of the Interim Finance Committee (jolacebula@yahoo.com; 567-1164). Any initial comments before November 22 would be appreciated.

THE PARISH PLANNING TEAM holds its next meeting this Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the O’Connell Parish Centre.

THE INTERIM FINANCE COMMITTEE holds its next meeting on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the O’Connell Parish Centre.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD: Parishioner Suzanne Campbell is picking up the filled shoeboxes today to take to the depot in Glace Bay. Please leave these at the back of the church or please give them to Suzanne. Many thanks to everyone who participated!

FLOWERS TO DECORATE THE CHURCH: Thank you to parishioners and visitors who have contributed flowers over the past several weeks. Flowers are welcomed in the church.

SPECIAL ADVENT DEVOTIONS:  Beginning on the Feast of Christ the King, Sunday, Nov. 25th, and continuing for the following four Sundays of Advent, Holy Redeemer (our neighbouring parish) will be holding a Holy Hour at 3pm. This Holy Hour will be offered for family intentions and for vocations to the priesthood. It will consist of hymns, Scripture readings, Chaplet of Divine Mercy, Adoration and Benediction. There will also be time beforehand for Confessions. Everyone is welcome.

DIOCESAN RENEWAL PROJECT: Notes from last week’s regional (Sydney deanery) meeting on the Diocesan Renewal Project, with Bishop Dunn in attendance, are posted on the parish bulletin board. Tom Urbaniak would be happy to discuss the meeting with any parishioner. It covered various topics as a prelude to the three-day Diocesan Congress planned for October 2013, for which we will be asked as a parish to send representatives.

JOLANTA CEBULA’S CLASSICAL VIOLIN STUDIO: Christmas Concert & coffee, tea, and cakes. Saturday, December 8th, at 2:00 pm St. Mary’s Polish Church, 21 Wesley St., Whitney Pier Tickets:  $5 each. Please Note: This concert is financially benefitting St. Mary’s Polish Church, and the rental of the church for the concert is in accordance with the policy on the use of the church for compatible functions.

PILGRIMAGE FOR THE WORLD’S HOMELESS TOOK PLACE IN CZĘSTOCHOWA ON NOV. 10: Ta pielgrzymka to jest wołanie o pomoc i zwrócenie uwagi wszystkich … ale również i władz, na trudną sytuację ludzi bezdomnych. Są osoby i władze odpowiedzialne za to i dlatego staramy się zwrócić uwagę na problem tych ludzi, bo czasem są oni wyrzucani na bruk, nie znają swoich praw i przez to też cierpią.
This pilgrimage is a cry for help and a prayerful effort to draw the attention of all ... including the leaders of society to the difficult situation of the homeless. There are people and leaders responsible for this, and that is why we want to call attention to the needs of people who are sometimes cast aside and who may not assert their rights, but who suffer as a result.

POLISH BISHOPS SHARE A SPECIAL PRAYER ON THE OCCASION OF THE WORLD DAY OF REMEMBRANCE FOR VICTIMS OF ROAD ACCIDENTS (Nov. 18): “Z całego serca zachęcam wszystkich, proszę i o to się modlę: kierujmy się Miłością na każdej drodze i w każdym dniu naszego życia!”
“With all my heart, I appeal to everyone and I pray: Let us proceed with a spirit of love/generosity on every road and in every day of our lives.”
Bishop Tadeuz Płoski
This special day was instituted in 1993. It is marked in many Polish churches. Polish roads and highways are unfortunately known for a very high number of fatalities.  Many of us here in Cape Breton are related to or know someone whose life was taken or who was seriously injured in a road accident. We pray for them and we pray and that all motorists may conduct themselves with caution and prudence. God bless

OFFERTORY HYMN FOR SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2012
Z Rąk Kapłańskich Przyjmij Panie
#16 in the coil-bound hymnal.

Z rąk kapłańskich przyjmij Panie
Te ofiare chleba wina
Co się wkrótce dla nas stanie
Krwią i ciałem twego syna

Niech przestępstwa nasze zmywa
I uśmierza gniew tój Panie
Niech nas z niebem pojednywa
I uzyska przebłaganie

From priestly hands, please receive O Lord
This offering of bread and wine
What will soon happen for us
The body and blood of your Son

Let it wash away our iniquity
And cast aside, O Lord, your wrath.
Let it unite us with Heaven
And gain for us atonement

CLOSING HYMN
 PEŁNA ŚWIĘTOŚCI

The composer, Teofil Klonowski (1805-1876), was the lay choir and educational director at the Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Poznań.

Pełna świętości i pobożności,
Słodka Panno Maryjo.
Matko kochana, niepokalana,
Módl się, módl się za nami.

Tyś pocieszeniem, Tyś jest schronieniem,
Panno, Matko Maryjo.
Ciebie wzywamy, Ciebie błagamy:
Módl się, módl się za nami.

W trudach słabnących, w troskach płaczących
Ratuj nas, o, Maryjo.
Pociesz w zmartwieniach, wzmocnij w cierpieniach:
Módl się, módl się za nami.

Przez Twe radości i Twe żałości
Wspieraj nas, o, Maryjo.
Tobie ufamy, Ciebie wzywamy:
Módl się, módl się za nami.

Full of holiness and devotion,
O sweet Virgin Mary! Our dear Mother Immaculate
Pray, pray for us!

You are our consolation, You are our refuge,
O Virgin Mary, Our Mother!
We appeal to you, we implore you:
Pray, pray for us!

The weakening hardships, in sorrow the cries
Save us, O Mary!
Comfort those in distress, strengthen the suffering:
Pray, pray for us!

By Thy joys and sorrows,
Support us about Mary!
In you we trust, you call:
Pray, pray for us!
