“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
October 9: Bogdan, Jan, Ludwik
October 10: Franciszek
October 11: Aldona, Emil, Emilian, Emiliusz, Maria, Marian
October 12: Maksymilian, Witold
October 13: Daniel, Edward
October 14: Alan, Bernard, Dominik
October 15: Jadwiga, Teresa
October 16: Aurelia, Gerard, Grzegorz

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

FATHER RICH REPORTS:
The scripture readings for this Sunday inspire us to be faithful to God and to rejoice and be thankful for all His gifts. Those gifts include also healings whether physical or spiritual in our lives. Saint Luke’s gospel is especially appropriate for us as we celebrate a national secular holiday tomorrow- Thanksgiving Day. This holiday although secular in reality has a very spiritual dimension in its origins. The colonists who gathered to celebrate the harvest were very strong faith filled (Protestant) Christians. Their thanks were directed to the Creator (God) who is the author of life and the giver of every gift. The story of the healing of the ten lepers and the fact that only one returned to give thanks is an illustration of how we as humans often lack the proper gratitude that we owe God and all the good people that He has sent into our lives. It is most appropriate to that we celebrate this Thanksgiving holiday with participation in the Eucharist (which means thanksgiving) or Holy Mass.

THANKSGIVING DAY MASS – MONDAY  10 A.M.
I invite you to begin your holiday by attending this Mass which will be concelebrated with two visiting Polish priest friends of mine from the Archdiocese of Halifax (Fr. Dariusz Misolek-Cole’s Harbour/Dartmouth & Fr. Dariusz Miskowicz from Truro). The Mass will be simple recited in English with some hymns. There will be an offering (collection) taken up where half of it will go to support a local charity. “Give thanks and remember!”

CELEBRATION OF THE HOLY SACRAMENTS AT ST. MARY’S
Holy Matrimony- United in the Sacrament of Matrimony were Adam Creighton Joseph  Mc Cormack and Christa Dawn Porter this past Saturday.

PAŹDZIERNIK MIESIĄSEM RÓŻAŃCA ŚWIĘTEGO -- OCTOBER- MONTH OF THE HOLY ROSARY: Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI said: “The Rosary, when it is prayed in an authentic way, not mechanically and superficially but profoundly, brings peace and reconciliation.” A hymn we sing this month is “Zawitaj Królowo Różańca Świętego.” The first verse is: Zawitaj Królowo różańca świętego, Jedyna nadziejo człowieka grzesznego! Zawitaj bez zmazy, Lilijo! Matko różańcowa, Maryjo. [Translation: Greetings, Queen of the Holy Rosary, The one hope for sinners! Greetings, o pristine one. Mother of the Rosary, Mary]

TRANSLATION OF TODAY'S SECOND READING (2 TM: 8-13): Beloved: Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David: such is my gospel, for which I am suffering, even to the point of chains, like a criminal. But the word of God is not chained. Therefore, I bear with everything for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus,  together with eternal glory. This saying is trustworthy: If we have died with him we shall also live with him; if we persevere we shall also reign with him. But if we deny him he will deny us. If we are unfaithful he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself.
