“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
March 13:Ernest, Kasjan, Krystyna, Marek
March 14: Jakub, Leon, Matylda, Michał
March 15: Klemens, Krzysztof, Ludwika
March 16: Henryka, Herbert, Izabela
March 17: Gertruda, Jan, Patryk, Zbigniew
March 18: Aleksander, Cyryl, Edward
March 19: Bogdan, Józef
March 20: Aleksander, Aleksandra, Klaudia

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

CHANGE TO SUNDAY MASS TIME AS OF EASTER SUNDAY: Beginning Easter Sunday, the regular Sunday Mass for St. Mary’s Polish Parish will be held at 9am. This change will give me a little more breathing time in between the two Sunday morning masses. Most parishes in the area that still have two Sunday morning masses have the same time frame. – Father Paul

Niedziela Palmowa/Palm Sunday – 9:30 a.m.

Niedziela Wielknanocna/Easter Sunday – 9 a.m.
Niedziela Miłosierdzia Bożego/Feast of Divine Mercy (April 3) – 9 a.m., followed by Parish Easter Breakfast. Everyone is welcome.

RECENT IMO ("IN MEMORY OF") CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE (RE)BUILDING FUND:

IMO Joe Dziubek from Frania & Melbourne McKay; Dianne Barrington
IMO Jim Redmond from Anne Redmond
IMO Stanley Mader from Stella Paruch
IMO Alister Beaton from Joan Mosher

A NOTE ON PAINTING FOR OUR NEW CHURCH: At last Wednesday’s Rada meeting, the tender for painting was awarded. However, to save costs, and on the recommendation of our construction manager, we are hoping that part of the (lower) painting can be done by volunteers. This will be a big help. More information to follow in the coming weeks. Dziekujemy bardzo!

PARISH CARE : If you know about a parishioner who is homebound or might appreciate a call or a helping hand for any reason, and for us to pray for them, please advise Catherine Tucker (902-567-0146).

PASTA DINNER TO SUPPORT OUR REBUILDING: This is being very kindly organized for us by Frank DiVito at Our Lady of Fatima Hall on Friday, April 1, at 6:30 p.m. Tickets should be purchased in advance for $15. Shauna McKay has tickets today.

PARISH DINNER THEATRE – FUND-RAISER: Fellow parishioner Brittany Fagan-Steele, who has a background in theatre arts, has developed a very interesting and totally “do-able” proposal for a pre-Christmas parish dinner theatre – as a fund-raiser for our rebuilding (we’ll still be fund-raising to finish the hall/reading room/kitchen section!) Brittany will say more about this at our Easter breakfast on April 3rd, but in the meantime we’d like to invite everyone to think about playing an acting role, big or small. No previous experience is required!

POLISH CLASSES FOR BEGINNERS got underway this past Tuesday. There are still a few spaces left, so if you are interested please join instructor Edyta Baczyk this Tuesday at 7 p.m. (until 8:30 p.m.) at the Polish Village Hall, downstairs (902-304-4757)

50th ANNUAL IRISH CONCERT: Irish Benevolent Society, TODAY, 7 p.m. at Etoile l'Acadie. Doors open at 6p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.

PARTIAL TRANSLATION OF THE SECOND READING (Phil 3:8-14): I consider everything as a loss because of the supreme good of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.
For his sake I have accepted the loss of all things and I consider them so much rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him …Brothers and sisters, I for my part
do not consider myself to have taken possession. Just one thing: forgetting what lies behind but straining forward to what lies ahead, I continue my pursuit toward the goal,
the prize of God’s upward calling, in Christ Jesus.

FEAST OF ST. JOSEPH (MARCH 19): PATRON SAINT OF CANADA, AND ALSO AN IMPORTANT DAY IN POLAND: Because of the Polish custom of celebrating name days (imieniny), and because Joseph was such a common name, the practice of “St. Joseph’s tables” (a special meal) became widespread on this day. Because St. Joseph’s Day falls during Lent, this is usually a meatless meal.

Swiety Jozef kiwnie broda, idzie zima nadol z woda : Saint Joseph shakes his beard, and see, winter has disappeared!

Donations can also be made by regular mail: St. Mary's Polish Parish 21 Wesley St. , Sydney, N.S. B1N 2M5. We still need to raise about $150,000 to complete Phase 2.
