“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
November 8: Dymitr, Klaudiusz
November 9: Bogudar, Genowefa, Teodor, Ursyn
November 10: Andrzej, Lena, Leon, Ludomir, Stefan
November 11: Anastazja, Bartłomiej, Maciej, Marcin, Teodor
November 12: Jonasz, Krystyn, Marcin, Renata, Witold
November 13: Arkadiusz, Eugeniusz, Jan, Mikołaj, Stanisław
November 14: Aga, Agata, Damian, Elżbieta, Emil, Emiliusz, Józef, Judyta

OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS

MEETING OF EVENT VOLUNTEERS (Christmas Bazaar, Tea, etc) – after Mass today at the O'Connell House.

THANK YOU for your contributions last week to Loaves and Fishes, which have been delivered.

POLISH STUDIO UPDATE – REBUILDING: There was a meeting on Friday with producer Tadeusz Lis. They will be doing a 13-minute segment on the November 21st program – CityTV – 12 noon (talking about our need for donations, sincerely thanking donors, the recent concert and also progress on building). Please note this is not yet the mini-telethon; they don't yet feel they have everything they need for the mini-telethon. They have asked us to do some more "homework" over the next month or so, including a segment where we set up a little studio here (at the hall or even on the building site) and do quick interviews with various parishioners and supporters of the parish, and continually inform viewers how they can donate. We would still use footage that we have from the concert throughout the show. Once edited, the telethon would be a busy, energetic 40 minutes long, and we can have phone numbers on the screen where people could call immediately to make pledges (those phones would be staffed while the show is running). The telethon would be pre-recorded but would have a "live" effect. Tadeusz provided a tape of a telethon Polish Studio did 10 years ago for the Polish church in Brampton. If anyone would like to see it, please speak with Tom Urbaniak. (The Oct. 10th 12- minute segment that Polish Studio did on our parish and the rebuilding is on-line here:  www.polcu.com/polishstudio/index.asp ).

A REMINDER FROM FATHER PAUL: If you have family members or friends sick and at home or in hospital and would like me to visit them, please call me at the Holy Redeemer glebehouse and let me know. If they are in need of the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, please call the hospital chaplain (if they are in hospital) or feel free to call me. It is very difficult to keep track of all the people going in and out of hospital, so it would be good if you can let me know that they would like a visit. There is also a priest on duty call for the Regional Hospital during the evenings and nights, Monday to Friday. They can be called upon for emergency Anointing of the Sick – you just have to ask the nurse to call him.

IMO Ted Baker from Robert Schella; Annie Schella

Please take note of the items that are not acceptable for packing.  Also, please kindly remember to include your $7 donation for shipping and administration costs.  The boxes must be returned by Sunday, November 15th.  You can give your boxes to Suzanne Campbell or Anne Marie Campbell.  Suzanne 270-2859/ Anne Marie 562-5837.  You can look online at samaritanspurse.ca to see the joy that these boxes bring to children at Christmas. SWIĘTO NIEPODLEGŁOŚCI – NOVEMBER 11 -- A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE AND HOPE: November 11th – the day of the armistice ending World War I in 1918 -- is also the day when Poland became an independent country again after a long period of occupation. Some of the ancestors of our parishioners were involved in that struggle. As such, for people of Polish heritage, November 11th is a holiday of both remembrance and hope.  For the 123 years before 1918, Poland had been partitioned between Russia, Austria-Hungary, and Germany/Prussia. Between 1918 and 1939, Poland maintained its independence. However, the beginning of World War II on September 1, 1939, saw the country invaded first by Germany and then by the Soviet Union. The first Chief of State of the post-1918 independent Poland was the legendary Józef Piłsudski. For many years his portrait graced our very own Polish Village Hall.   This old portrait was found during the recent renovations and is once again displayed in the hall (in the downstairs exhibit area).

New “IMO” (Building Fund) cards and envelopes have been printed and are at the back of the church.

REBUILDING FUND CONTRIBUTIONS: Building Fund contributions will go toward the new church. To contribute to the rebuilding if you do not have an envelope, you can also write on your regular envelope or cheque “Designated to the Rebuilding of St. Mary’s Polish Church.”

THANK YOU TO OUR VETERANS! May God bless you. We pray for the deceased veterans of St. Mary’s Polish Parish. In tribute to them, the following is the refrain from Czerwone Maki na Monte Cassino – literally Red Poppies on Monte Cassino – by Feliks Konarski, which is almost like a Polish version of In Flanders Fields:

Czerwone maki na Monte Cassino
Zamiast rosy piły polską krew...
Po tych makach szedł żołnierz i ginął,
Lecz od śmierci silniejszy był gniew!
Przejdą lata i wieki przeminą,
Pozostaną ślady dawnych dni!..
I tylko maki na Monte Cassino
Czerwieńsze będą, bo z polskiej wzrosną krwi
