“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
September 7: Marek, Regina, Rena, Ryszard
September 8: Adrian, Adrianna, Maria, Radosław, Radosława, Klementyna
September 9: Augustyna, Aureliusz, Piotr
September 10: Aldona, Łukasz, Mikołaj

FEAST OF THE NATIVITY OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY – SEPTEMBER 8 – FEAST DAY OF OUR PARISH: This is the formal Polish name of our parish (Parafia p.w. Narodzenia Najświętszej Maryi Panny), and it marks the 101st birthday of our parish.  The Church has celebrated Mary’s birth since the sixth century, if not earlier. “Impart to your servants, we pray, O Lord, the gift of heavenly grace, that the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin may bring deeper peace to those for whom the birth of her Son was the dawning of salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.”

RECENT IMO (“in memory of”) CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE BUILDING FUND:
IMO Maria Woloszyn from Andrzej and Jolanta Cebula
IMO Dorothy Gillis from Joan Mosher

A NOTE FROM URSULA AND MICHAEL MELSKI:  Ursula and Michael Melski wish to thank everyone who expressed condolences on the death of Ursula’s mother, Maria Woloszyn. To all those who sent sympathy cards, Mass cards, or donations to the church, we are grateful. Thank you to Father Paul for the Memorial Mass. A special thank you to everyone from Ursula’s brothers, Henryk and Janek.

JAN KARSKI ROUNDTABLE/EXHIBIT ON THE ROLE OF EDUCATION IN PREVENTING GENOCIDE – SEPTEMBER 22:
Earlier this year, on the occasion of his 100th birthday, the Canadian House of Commons declared Jan Karski a Hero of Humanity. During World War II, this young Polish diplomat heroically tried to warn the world about the Holocaust and save its victims. The roundtable on Monday, September 22, will take place at CBU from 11:30 until 1:30 a.m. There is no charge and lunch is included. If you would like to be part of it, please speak with Tom Urbaniak (563-1226). This roundtable is presented by CBU and the Consulate General of Poland.

TICKETS FOR OUR OCTOBER 4th AUCTION ($10 EACH) ARE AVAILABLE. If you would like to sell some tickets to friends and colleagues, please speak with Shauna McKay.

OCTOBER 4th – FUNDRAISING AUCTION FOR OUR NEW ROOF: Thank you to everyone who volunteered to contact businesses. Inserted in the bulletin recently was a “central list” showing names of businesses and parishioners who volunteered to contact them. If there was more than one volunteer for a business, one person was assigned based on the first name received or if we knew that one of the volunteers has a particularly close connection to the owner. There are still businesses with “blanks,” and we welcome additional volunteers (including for businesses not on the list). At the back of the church are copies of a letter that you can show businesses you visit. If you receive a donated good or certificate to be auctioned, please bring it to church before Sunday or Wednesday Mass, and we will store it until the auction. Thank you for all your help!

INTERNATIONAL VISITORS TO OUR CHURCH ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 12: Following Mass, we will have the opportunity to be part of some unique guest presentations and musical demonstrations on Croatian and Polish topics. There will be a lunch (free of charge). The lunch and presentations are free of charge to our parishioners and friends.

2014 POLISH FESTIVAL: Sunday, October 19, starting at 3 p.m. – indoors, using the Polish Village Hall plus tours of the church, and having various indoor stations, performances, and food selections, some of which will be related to the traditional Polish “Dozynki” (giving thanks for the harvest).

PROPERTY COMMITTEE CHAIR – Jim Campbell. If you notice any repair/upkeep issues, please feel free to contact Jim at 565-8924 (cell) or 562-5837 (home).

RELIEVING AND ENDING THE SUFFERING AND STRIFE IN THE MIDDLE EAST: A note from the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops: Since the appeal by Pope Francis on August 7, 2014, and throughout these past weeks, most Catholic dioceses across Canada have expressed their solidarity with the people in the Middle East, and invited parishes to remember the Middle East situation in the Prayers of the Faithful. In addition, dioceses are also encouraging Catholics to support assistance and development agencies which are collecting funds for the suffering people of Iraq, Gaza and Syria. Three national Catholic agencies are supporting special projects in the region for emergency assistance and reconstruction: the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace, CNEWA Canada, and Aid to the Church in Need.

THE RENOVATED AND REFURBISHED POLISH VILLAGE HALL is a comfortable, well appointed, modernized venue for events large and small. Please consider renting the hall for your events. Please call 564-8494.

PLEASE CHECK OUT OUR ON-LINE “VIRTUAL TOUR” AND AN 8.5 MINUTE PARISH WELCOME VIDEO ON OUR WEBSITE:  www.stmaryspolishparish.ca

Wishing you a blessed week! Bóg zapłać!
