“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
August 17: Anastazja, Angelika, Anita, Eliza, Jacek, Joanna, Julianna, Miron, Żanna

August 18: Bogusława, Bronisław, Bronisz, Helena, Ilona, Klara
August 19: Bolesław, Emilia, Jan, Julian, Juliusz, Piotr
August 20: Jan, Samuel, Samuela
August 21: Emilian, Filipina, Franciszek, Joanna, Kazimiera, Męcimir
August 22: Cezary, Maria, Tymoteusz, Zygfryd

WORKING WITH OTHER FAITH COMMUNITIES IN SUPPORT OF HABITAT FOR HUMANITY – WHITNEY PIER PROJECT:  The inter-faith committee, which recently hosted a successful community event at our church and other sites, is now well into the process of developing a unique educational board game called “The Pier.” Half the proceeds will support the Habitat project and the other half will support the participating faith communities based on units sold. The committee is still collecting trivia questions (and answers) about the Pier. If your questions are used, you will be acknowledged. Please leave your questions in the red folder at the back of the church.

OCTOBER 4th – FUNDRAISING AUCTION FOR OUR NEW ROOF: Thank you to everyone who volunteered to contact businesses. Inserted in last week’s bulletin (extra copies today on the back table) was a “central list” showing businesses and parishioners who volunteered to contact them. If there was more than one volunteer for a business, one person was assigned based on the first name received or if we knew that one of the volunteers has a particularly close connection to the owner. There are still businesses with “blanks,” and we welcome additional volunteers (including for businesses not on the list). At the back of the church are copies of a letter that you can show businesses you visit. If you receive a donated good or certificate to be auctioned, please bring it to church before Sunday or Wednesday Mass, and we will store it until the auction. Thank you for all your help!

2014 POLISH FESTIVAL: Sunday, October 19, starting at 3 p.m. – indoors, using the Polish Village Hall plus tours of the church, and having various indoor stations, performances, and food selections, some of which will be related to the traditional Polish “Dozynki” (giving thanks for the harvest).

BENCHES FOR THE PARISH GARDEN: We have two new benches for our grotto/garden. Please don’t hesitate to spend time there for prayer and contemplation. Thank you to Shauna McKay for assembling the benches. And thank you to everyone who has been tending to the food garden – which is growing very well! The vegetables will be used for our community meals and for Loaves and Fishes.

22-ego sierpnia (August 22) – Uroczystość NMP Królowej / The Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary: "Mary was taken up body and soul into heavenly glory, and exalted by the Lord as Queen of the universe, that she might be the more fully conformed to her Son"
-From the Second Vatican Council’s Constitution of the Church
The title Queen of Heaven has been used for centuries in the Catholic church and is a common formulation in prayers and in art. In 1969, Pope Paul VI, moved the Feast of the Queenship of Mary to August 22.

PROPERTY COMMITTEE CHAIR – Jim Campbell. If you notice any repair/upkeep issues, please feel free to contact Jim at 565-8924 (cell) or 562-5837 (home).

VISITORS WELCOME TO OUR HISTORIC CHURCH: If you have visitors this summer, please do not hesitate to bring them to Sunday and Wednesday Mass. Everyone is welcome. Also, if any visitors would like a tour of the church during the week or if you or your guests would like the church opened for quiet prayer at any time, please don’t hesitate to call 563-1226.  Please ask guests to sign our guest book at the back of the church.

GIFT CERTIFICATES – POLISH VILLAGE HALL.  Please speak with Bernie LaRusic. Since the renovations, the hall is seeing increasing traffic as a comfortable, modern, versatile space for events large and small.

THE RENOVATED AND REFURBISHED POLISH VILLAGE HALL is a comfortable, well appointed, modernized venue for events large and small. Please consider renting the hall for your events. Please call 564-8494.

PLEASE CHECK OUT OUR ON-LINE “VIRTUAL TOUR” AND AN 8.5 MINUTE PARISH WELCOME VIDEO ON OUR WEBSITE:  www.stmaryspolishparish.ca

Wishing you a blessed week! Bóg zapłać!
