“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name. Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
July 20: Małgorzata, Paweł
July 21: Andrzej, Daniel, Paulina, Wiktor
July 22: Bolesława, Bolisława, Maria Magdalena, Milenia, Więcemiła
July 23: Bogna, Żelisław
July 24: Antoni, Kinga, Krystyna, Olga, Wojciecha
July 25: Jakub, Krzysztof, Sławosz, Walentyna
July 26: Anna, Baldev, Grażyna, Mirosława
July 27: Julia, Marta, Natalia
OGŁOSZENIA / ANNOUNCEMENTS
PLEASE NOTE: There will be no refreshments and paczki today after Mass. Thanks for your support these past several weeks. We will have a lunch on Sunday, August 3, at which time we will do a short survey of what parishioners would like to have going forward after Mass on those Sundays when we don’t have an actual lunch, One of the options is offering a different Polish pastry every second Sunday.
OUR NEXT POLSKI PIATEK (informal, after-work get-together) will be this Friday, July 25, at 6 p.m. There will be some Polish entertainment and przystawki (reception-style Polish food selections). There is no charge. Everyone is welcome (Polish Village Hall, downstairs).
ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 30, there will be no Wednesday Mass, as Father Alex will be attending the diaconate ordination of Brother Joseph Cosmas Epifano at Holy Redeemer at 4 p.m. that day, to which we are all invited.

SPECIAL SHORT MEETING OF PARISHIONERS – during lunch on Sunday, August 3 (after Mass). The meeting originally slated for today is moved to August 3. We will talk about our charity auction (October 4) to raise money for the new roof. The Rada met this week with Larry MacLean (auctioneer) and Bernie Paruch. Planning is underway, but we would like to ask for your direction and/or help on a few things.
2014 POLISH FESTIVAL: At the Rada meeting this past Monday, there was a discussion of the timing and placement of the Polish Festival. Even though the past festivals were successful, weather has sometimes created big challenges. Further, some of the funding and outdoor equipment would not be available to us this year on September 7. We would like to go ahead with the parish’s Polish Festival this year on Sunday, October 19, starting at 3 p.m. – indoors, using the Polish Village Hall plus tours of the church, and having various indoor stations, performances, and food selections, some of which would be related to the traditional Polish “Dozynki” (giving thanks for the harvest).
WE’RE PUTTING TOGETHER A PARISH TEAM FOR AUGUST 2: Would you like to be part of our parish’s team for the “Pier Pursuit” event on the afternoon of Saturday, August 2? It is a fund-raiser for Habitat for Humanity’s Pier project, collectively organized by the Pier faith communities. All the teams will be gathering in our church, downstairs, at 12 noon on Sat., Aug 2. Please speak with any member of the Rada. We have a sponsor to cover our parish registration, so there would be no charge to you. Please also invite your workplaces to enter a team (entry form on back of bulletin insert).
PROPERTY COMMITTEE CHAIR – Jim Campbell. If you notice any repair/upkeep issues, please feel free to contact Jim at 565-8924 (cell) or 562-5837 (home).
FUND-RAISING AUCTION: Please mark the date of Saturday, October 4, for a fund-raising auction for our new roof for the church – to take place at the Polish Village Hall. We will be reaching out to the broader community for donations of good and services to be auctioned. Please speak with your contacts in the community. Thank you for your help and support!
VISITORS WELCOME TO OUR HISTORIC CHURCH: If you have visitors this summer, please do not hesitate to bring them to Sunday and Wednesday Mass. Everyone is welcome. Also, if any visitors would like a tour of the church during the week or if you or your guests would like the church opened for quiet prayer at any time, please don’t hesitate to call 563-1226. Please ask guests to sign our guest book at the back of the church.
BUTTERFLY GARDEN: This has been suggested to further enhance our garden at the back of the church. New Dawn Enterprises’ gardening assistant has offered to work with us free of charge. Would you be able to contribute any time, material, or plants? Please speak with any member of the Rada.
St. Kinga of Poland (Feast Day: July 24): Kinga (1224-1292) was a Hungarian princess married to King Boleslaw V of Poland. St. Kinga preferred a life of modesty and poverty. When her husband died she gave away all her material possessions and spent all her time helping poor people and lepers. She moved to a monastery and refused to allow people to refer to her by her royal titles. She was known to give gifts of salt to symbolize the influence we can have just by doing good. She is therefore the patron saint of salt miners. In the Wieliczka Salt Mine near Krakow (an incredible, underground world heritage site) there is an elaborate chapel made from salt called St. Kinga’s Chapel.
