“IMIENINY” (NAME DAYS) FOR THE COMING WEEK. Help to maintain a longstanding Polish Catholic tradition by acknowledging relatives, friends, and colleagues who are celebrating their “name day,” corresponding with the feast day of a saint of the same name.  Where there is more than one saint of the same name who has been assigned a day, your “name day” is the one closest to your birthday. It is customary in the Polish tradition to acknowledge the name day of a relative or friend:
July 13: Ernest, Eugeniusz, Jakub, Justyna, Małgorzata, Sara
July 14: Damian, Dobrogost, Franciszek, Izabela, Marcelina
July 15: Daniel, Dawid, Henryk, Iga, Ignacy
July 16: Andrzej, Maria Magdalena, Marika, Stefan
July 17: Aleksander, Andrzej, Bogdan, Marcelina, Maria Magdalena
July 18: Erwin, Kamil, Karolina, Robert, Szymon
July 19: Lutobor, Wincenty

EVERYONE IS INVITED AFTER MASS TODAY downstairs for refreshments and Polish doughnuts. We will also have sandwiches available today. There is a suggested flat contribution of $3 per person (there will be a basket on the table) to go toward the new roof for the church. Dziekujemy!

NEXT SUNDAY AFTER MASS there will be a short general meeting of parishioners to plan for the Polish Festival (scheduled for Sunday, September 7).

ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 30, there will be no Wednesday Mass, as Father Alex will be attending the diaconate ordination of Brother  Joseph Cosmas Epifano at Holy Redeemer at 4 p.m. that day, to which we are all invited.

ST. SZYMON (SIMON) OF LIPNICA – FEAST DAY JULY 18: One of the patron saints of Kraków and of university students of Polish heritage, Br. Simon (1435-1482) was a Franciscan and teacher at Jagiellonian University. In the statement accompanying his canonization in 2007 we are told that “he genuinely embraced the humble and poor life …” When the plague stuck Kraków in the early 1480s, Simon “went everywhere comforting, giving succour, administering the sacraments and announcing the consoling Word of God to the dying. He was soon infected. He suffered the pain of the disease with extraordinary patience and, near the end, expressed his desire to be buried under the threshold of the church…”
